We’re Publishing Our Internal Manual!? SUNNY SIDE UP’s Manual Book ‘SUNNY SIDE UP’s Step-by-Step PR Guide’ Containing Most of Our Operations Is Now on Sale!

Hello, readers! I’m Kameyama, a planner at SUNNY SIDE UP.

This time, I’d like to promote a certain book rather than analyze current trends! (Please forgive me just this once…)

Finally, our internal manual has been published as a book! 👏👏👏

The title is ‘SUNNY SIDE UP’s Step-by-Step PR Guide,’ and you can find it here.

It will start appearing in early bookstores from Friday, April 30, and will be available on Amazon from Thursday, May 6 (pre-orders are already available).

In this blog post, I would like to introduce the book and share the behind-the-scenes story of its publication.

A manual book packed with the expertise of SUNNY SIDE UP, which has supported PR activities for various companies and organizations for over 30 years

Background of the Book Publication>>>

As a PR company, we have conducted various public relations and PR activities for companies and organizations, from opening PR for commercial facilities, Japan launch PR for overseas brands, public relations activities for international sporting events, to management of athletes. To systematize this experience, we created an internal manual for new employees and mid-career members, which became the basis for this book.

As PR (Public Relations) involves “building good relationships with all stakeholders,” corporate PR activities are no longer limited to simply gaining publicity. The area covered by PR activities extends to all communication activities that combine a variety of measures, including digital marketing, SNS campaigns, and promotional events, while focusing on publicity.

Therefore, because PR professionals are required to have knowledge across a wide range of communication activities, we believed that this internal manual, which condenses almost all PR operations, could support the work of various people, including veteran and novice PR professionals who struggle daily to install new knowledge, and “one-person PR managers” at startup companies, which led us to publish it as a book.

We created an internal manual to be used in training and on-the-job training for new employees and mid-career members covering all PR-related operations. We edited this manual into a single book and organized it by PR activity genre so that it can be used as a “basic guidebook” for all PR professionals.

Not only tactics, but also PR thinking and planning, as well as how to create reports that are essential in actual work—it covers almost all of the “basics of PR activities.” It is the new standard “PR textbook” that novice PR professionals can follow without confusion and that people with no prior knowledge can read smoothly.

Until the publication of this book, a large amount of sweat and tears from our internal members may have been shed, and perhaps even blood!?

This book lists planners Yoshida and Kameyama, as well as the SSU Internal Manual Editorial Team as authors, but approximately 20 experts in various fields were involved in that editorial team.

We originally started creating this manual around September 2019. We assigned members to be in charge of each chapter, created drafts, and after repeated revisions, completed it around July 2020. While each person had their regular work, they squeezed in time and pushed themselves for the future of SSU to somehow complete it.

President Tsugihara, seeing the completed internal manual and its quality, gave us the directive, “Why don’t you make this into a book!?” and the publisher and writer were smoothly decided.

We met with the publisher in September 2020, and from there until the book’s release, SSU members, the publisher, and the writer all worked while sweating profusely to create it (this is Kameyama’s image, and I believe they actually worked smartly).

This is a behind-the-scenes story, but although the internal manual was originally a PowerPoint document of nearly 300 pages and most of the content was already complete, there was information that could not be shown externally, inconsistent expressions, and many sections that needed revision.

Even though it was based on an internal manual that had been checked and revised many times, we checked and revised it a total of 10 more times. In March and April just before release, we were pressed by the printing schedule, and President Tsugihara’s directive to “make it into a book” sometimes felt like a demon’s command—but that’s a secret just between us. Please don’t DM President Tsugihara’s Twitter to tell on anyone.

Finally, the book we created with such effort will be on sale from Friday, April 30!!

To reiterate, ‘SUNNY SIDE UP’s Step-by-Step PR Guide’ will be on sale from April 30. For all public relations and PR professionals, it can be used for training new employees within your company as well as for reconfirming your own knowledge in the PR field, so we would very much like you to get your hands on it.

This book took about a year and a half from the creation of the internal manual, supported by many members and stakeholders, so it is filled with affection as if it were our own child. We would be very happy if you could cherish it (read it thoroughly).
