Introducing “Sani-Sanpo”! Exploring the trending “Dagayasando” area! The neighborhood around the SUNNY SIDE UP headquarters is the perfect spot for dates and strolls.

Are you familiar with the term “Dagayasando”? It refers to the area combining Kitasando and Sendagaya. Located near the New National Stadium, it has become a trending hidden gem featured in various media, with stylish cafes and high-end shops opening one after another in anticipation of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

As it happens, the SUNNY SIDE UP headquarters is located right in the heart of Dagayasando!

Our PR team visited some of the most talked-about spots in this notable area!
We explored shops that our members use daily, as well as some slightly more niche locations.
We’ve named it “Sani-Sanpo”! Here is a report on our excursion.

Hatomori Hachiman Shrine, located about a five-minute walk from our office, is a symbolic landmark of Dagayasando.

Located diagonally across from the shrine are Monmouth Tea and Bird Ruby.

S__56131615

Monmouth Tea is a specialty tea shop where you can enjoy original milk tea made from a rich blend of over ten types of Sri Lankan tea leaves.
It is sweet and delicious, with a gentle flavor that is not overpowering. Some say that once you taste this milk tea, you can’t drink any other.

Next door, Bird Ruby is a panini and coffee shop.
They usually have five or six types of panini available. The panini are chewy and satisfying; one is enough to fill you up, so some of our female members take them out for lunch.
(It might be a little light for men…?!)
The coffee is also excellent and highly recommended. Takeout for coffee only is also available.

We passed Hatomori Hachiman Shrine and headed toward our lunch destination.

It was a beautiful day, perfect for a stroll.
It feels wonderful just walking around!

The Shogi Kaikan (Japan Shogi Association headquarters), which has been a hot topic recently, is also located near Hatomori Hachiman Shrine.

For lunch, we chose a curry restaurant called Yogoro.
It is a popular establishment with a cozy interior that is always full; we waited in line for about 20 minutes that day.

S__56131602

The pork curry, which was already sold out when we arrived, is an extremely rare menu item limited to only five servings per day. Even regulars find it difficult to get a taste.

We decided to order the chicken curry!
You can choose between a tomato or spinach base for the roux.

I chose the tomato base.

S__56131597

The acidity of the tomato matches perfectly with the sharp kick of the spices.

My colleague, S, chose the spinach base.

S__56131598

This one has a creamy and mild flavor.

Both dishes come with generous portions of juicy, spice-rubbed chicken sautéed to a crisp. Although it was quite a lot of food, we were hungry from our walk and the wait, so we finished it all in no time.

S, a true curry lover, was so impressed that
they added it to their list of favorites! (Laughs)

According to Yogoro experts, the most sophisticated way to order is with toppings: “tomato base with a boiled egg” or “spinach base with cheese.”
I would like to try ordering with toppings next time!

After being satisfied with the delicious curry, we headed to Kippy’s Coco-Cream and David Otto Juice, located next to the Ron Herman Sendagaya store,
in search of dessert.

S__56131599

Kippy’s Coco-Cream, which has its main store in Venice, California, is a 100% organic ice cream shop that uses no sugar, dairy, or chemicals.
It is popular as a place where people with allergies, those on diets, or health-conscious individuals can enjoy delicious ice cream with peace of mind.

The interior is stylish and photogenic, making you feel as if you are on the West Coast of California!

S__56131590

I indulged in a triple scoop of Double Dark Chocolate, Green Tea, and Lemon Vanilla.

S__56131587

Instead of sugar, they use coconut water, coconut cream, raw honey, and dates for sweetness, making it very healthy!
As expected of 100% organic products, I could really taste the natural flavors of the ingredients.
Ice cream that is delicious yet guilt-free is a dream come true for any ice cream lover.

Located in the same building as Kippy’s is David Otto Juice, a cold-pressed juice shop.

S__56131593

Cold-pressed juice has become a trend in Japan over the last few years, with many specialty shops opening and health methods like juice cleanses becoming popular. This shop, however, has a history of over 40 years since it first opened on Santa Monica Boulevard in California.
In its home region, it is immensely popular and well-loved by health-conscious celebrities as the pioneer of cold-pressed juice.

S__56131594

There were so many varieties that we were having trouble deciding, so the staff recommended a sample of the “Apple Raspberry Coconut”!

S__56131591

We bought some to take away,
as souvenirs for the members who unfortunately couldn’t join us.

S__56131586

While satisfied with the healthy desserts, we still had some room left, so we visited one more place to try some famous soft-serve ice cream that has been featured in numerous media outlets!

The soft-serve ice cream at LAITIER uses milk delivered directly from Oomi Izu Farm in Shizuoka Prefecture, which has won the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Award—the gold medal of the food industry—19 times.
It is extremely popular across all generations for its rich flavor.
(There was even a media crew filming there that day!)

We chose the most popular item, the “Honey and Three Kinds of Nuts Soft Serve.”

soft

The combination of honey-coated nuts and soft-serve ice cream is absolutely perfect!!
The ice cream was packed all the way to the bottom of the cone, making it a very substantial dessert!

That concludes our “Sani-Sanpo.” We finished the day feeling completely satisfied and full of delicious food.
Of course, we worked even harder after we got back! (^^)/

How was it?
Dagayasando is full of wonderful, photogenic shops that are both delicious and impossible to resist photographing.
When you visit our office, why not take a stroll through Dagayasando?

There are still many more charming shops that we couldn’t introduce this time!
Perhaps there will be a second installment…?!
