Nice to meet you, I’m Yamaguchi, a new employee!

This month, we once again held our morning meeting “Poached Egg,” where we study the latest trends and hot topics. This time, many of us new employees who joined in April also participated, and fresh information was flying around!

Poached Egg 1

Now, let us promptly introduce the examples that came up this time!

The wine bottle “Don’t reach the bottom,” which makes the dangers of drunk driving clearer the more you drink

People in Russia also love alcohol. However, there are many accidents caused by drunk driving, making it a serious issue. This led to a campaign in Russia that uses a wine bottle to highlight the dangers of drunk driving. At first glance it looks like an ordinary wine bottle, but as you continue drinking, an illustration appears on the bottle. It is a humorous campaign with the message, “It’s fine to drink, but don’t end up like the illustration!” It might even look stylish displayed in your room after you finish it…

Akamoku may help with hay fever and dieting!

Every year, a variety of hay fever countermeasure products are sold, but right now the food drawing the most attention as something familiar is the superfood called “Akamoku.”
It is a type of seaweed, and it is said to not only help with hay fever but also promote fat burning. It is great news for women. Since it is seaweed, it seems easy to incorporate into a dish and convenient to use. Please give it a try at least once!

Sticky-note notebook

Back in our student days, it was difficult to keep notebooks neatly organized, wasn’t it? I remember rewriting a new notebook every time before a test… But this solves that problem!
Recently, “sticky-note notebooks” have apparently been trending among students. As the name suggests, you write on sticky notes and paste them into your notebook—that’s all. Because you do not write directly in the notebook, you can freely change the order and more. It is like going from analog to digital.

Mastodon

A web service called Mastodon has rapidly been attracting attention among Japanese internet users over the past few days. Some users even say it “feels similar to the early days of Twitter.” The major difference from Twitter is that there is not just one site; it is distributed across multiple sites. Mastodon is a decentralized platform, designed with a “post-Twitter” concept in mind, covering Twitter’s weaknesses—for example, avoiding the risk of communication being monopolized by a single company. Mastodon also has many users in Japan aged 30 and above, so it is something to watch going forward!

cluster: a VR service that accelerates social withdrawal

This is an app that lets you create a room in VR (virtual reality) and share experiences such as watching videos, attending events, and enjoying live performances. Anyone can have a VR experience alone or with a few people. For example, it feels like being able to play in the same space with your online gaming friends—whom you previously enjoyed via voice chat—while staying in your own room. “cluster,” which lets you experience this new sensation, is scheduled for release in May 2017. We cannot wait!

“i-Cave,” which lets you create your own personal cave

Village Vanguard Webbed Co., Ltd. has started taking advance reservations for a product called “Your Own Personal Cave: i-Cave.”
This product is reportedly designed by calculating a space where people can feel at ease. It can be used in various ways, such as reading, studying, or gaming. In addition, if you place a small projector on the shelf above the entrance, the back wall becomes a screen, and there is also a shelf installed further inside where you can place small items. The idea of a “cave,” rather than a room, is new.

AutoDraw

Drawing illustrations on a smartphone or computer is difficult, isn’t it? If you are not a professional, your lines inevitably get shaky, or you cannot draw what you intended…
Leave those concerns to AutoDraw!
“AutoDraw” is a free online drawing tool that applies machine learning, released by Google Inc. on April 11. Simply put, AI (artificial intelligence) can instantly refine any illustration into a “designer-quality” finish.
AI automatically identifies what your drawing is an image of and turns it into a wonderful illustration. It seems like software you can use just for fun as well.

That is all—what did you think?
Please look forward to next month!
