I Participated in the “After-School Internship” Marketing Course!

Nice to meet you! I’m Daiki Fujita, an after-school intern.

I participated in the “Marketing Course” this time. I’d like to share what it was like!
1
Suddenly…

“Hey, you guys!! Try explaining ‘marketing’ concisely!”

There probably aren’t many university students who can quickly raise their hand and answer this question…!
That’s right—we university students often hear the word marketing and learn about it in fragments in our classes, but I think many of us don’t really understand it. I’m one of those students. It’s a bit worrying to move forward with job hunting like this.

That’s when SUNNY SIDE UP’s “After-School Internship” caught my eye.

“It’s held on weekday evenings, and since there are five different themes, I can attend according to the theme I want to learn about!” (Fujita’s inner voice)

So I applied for the marketing course from among the five themes and off I went!
2When you hear SUNNY SIDE UP, the first thing that comes to mind is this “sunny-side up egg.”
When you visit, the office walls actually use vibrant yellow like that egg, and the promotional campaigns they’ve worked on are displayed. You can feel the energetic atmosphere.

When I entered the venue, conversations were lively here and there during the waiting time…! When I listened, I learned that since the “After-School Internship” is held five times, if you participate multiple times, you naturally become familiar faces and get to know each other.

Our purpose in participating in internships is of course to learn about industries and companies, but getting to know peers who aspire to the same industry is also one of our major objectives!

I felt this atmosphere of growing friendships was really great. (Apparently, last year’s internship participants are still in touch with each other!)

And finally, the lecture began! Upbeat (?) background music started playing, and instructor Mr. Aida began speaking using pop slides. When we students hear the word marketing, we tend to think of it as somewhat academic and feel intimidated, but…?
4Mr. Aida explains in an easy-to-understand way examples of how marketing is hidden in things and people familiar to us. Fundamentally, humans are creatures that pattern their behavior, as the saying “relying on good omens” suggests. The foundation of marketing is a method for deciphering this patterning.

Therefore, you realize that marketing is applied in various places connected to actions in society, such as “That politician is also using marketing techniques!?”

In other words, regardless of industry, marketing can be applied in any situation when selling products or spreading ideas, and at the same time, it’s knowledge that is required. There’s no loss in learning this!
However, at the same time, Mr. Aida said,
“Taking the strategies built using marketing knowledge and actually materializing and creating them—that’s what’s necessary.”

Indeed, even if you can plan something, if you haven’t put it into action, you can’t say the marketing is alive. He explained this using examples of campaigns handled by SUNNY SIDE UP. This concluded the classroom input. Even at this point, it was quite substantial.
5And finally, group work time! We challenged the assignment using what we learned in the lecture up to this point!
6 What I felt here was that the distance between students and instructors is incredibly close!!

Everyone asks questions freely when curious, and the instructors constantly provide feedback at this close distance. It’s like a university seminar, so to speak.
8The assignment also built on the lesson content. Some people even stood up without thinking. With tight time constraints, time management becomes important too…!

Also, I felt there were many people with interesting perspectives on ideas and unique opinions!
Are people interested in the PR industry interesting people!? In any case, this is one of the unique attractions of the after-school internship.9And finally, presentations in front of everyone! This presentation was also a good experience in outputting in a short time! People who aren’t good at speaking in front of others might benefit from experiencing this here!

After all, it’s so welcoming!10After each group’s presentation and instructor feedback, the entire schedule was complete.
Being able to experience both input and output in three and a half hours is also an attraction of this internship! Even after filling out the survey, everyone was friendly. Even first-time participants have already bonded, centered around their groups. Some people’s teased-character traits are revealed (laughs)

What I felt from participating in the marketing course is that marketing doesn’t stand on knowledge alone. I felt that it only becomes meaningful when the mechanism born from knowledge is completed!! Also, there are many opportunities for participating students to interact with each other. I felt this was also one of the attractions.
I believe the peers you meet here can become friends who will work hard together during job hunting.

This concludes my experience report on the marketing course!

Whether you’re interested in the PR industry or not! Please participate in this internship where you can learn while making friends!
