Spooky-cute! Disney characters × BE@RBRICK × Halloween—limited-edition items!

Hello.
I’m Yamashita from PR.

It’s cold… so cold…
It suddenly got cold, and I have no idea what to wear! *tears*
But you know… when the seasons shift and it gets colder and warmer back and forth, I can’t help feeling excited and a little restless. *laughs*

It has really gotten cold, but today’s topic is perfect for this time of year. When you think of October… it’s Halloween!

Over the past few years, Halloween has become a staple in Japan as well. Even if you don’t dress up, you may bake a cake or buy pumpkin-patterned Halloween goods…
I imagine many of you are doing some kind of Halloween-related spending, aren’t you?
A few weeks ago, The Nikkei ran a story with the headline, “Will Halloween surpass the Valentine’s market?”

As it happens, I worked at Disney World in the U.S. for about a year until just before last Halloween, so last year I dressed up and joined the park’s Halloween event as a guest, received a huge amount of candy, and enjoyed Halloween like a child. To be honest, though, I was even more surprised by the high-level, truly serious costumes worn by American adults visiting the park than by the Halloween-limited Disney characters in the park.
(Many adults stood out even more than the children.)

In Japan, if parents with children dress up in costumes that rival their kids, it might be seen as “not very adult,” but it makes me happy to see so many people enjoying themselves at events in any outfit, with more smiles all around! Halloween really makes you feel the cultural differences between Japan and the U.S., but each has its own great points, doesn’t it?
It is certainly a wonderful time of year for event lovers.

Now then, this time we will introduce a product related to Disney and Halloween!

A limited-edition BE@RBRICK—well known for collaborations with artists and brands—has arrived featuring Disney characters dressed up for Halloween, and it even comes with a chance to win a prize. Its name is “BE@RBRICK WOW!”
As the first release, rare-feeling Halloween-limited items have appeared with Disney characters dressed as mummies and ghosts.

*And believe it or not!* SUNNY SIDE UP jointly planned and produced this with Medicom Toy. (So yes, it may feel a bit like an advertorial—thank you for your understanding!)

I can’t believe our company was able to create something this cute… I was moved, even though it’s our own work. Seeing our company name printed on the box made me so happy that I was desperately trying to hide how flustered I was in the office.

In any case, when I hung my favorite one together with my employee ID, so many people both inside and outside the company told me, “That’s so cute!” I’m truly grateful… It’s rare and adorable, so I think it really stands out!

“BE@RBRICK WOW!” is currently on sale with a display like this.

Choose the box you like from among these and take it to the register, and you will find out on the spot whether it’s a winner!

When I bought one for the first time, I was so excited I couldn’t stop grinning. I was looking forward to seeing what was inside, but if you win, you receive a special box containing five figures!

Set of 5!

Set of 5!

You could also say I simply enjoyed the first-time experience of buying a product that includes the name of the company I work for.

I was already excited just taking the box I chose to the register, but people are greedy. A few were not enough…
“I want to buy in bulk, and I want to win, too.”
With those passionate (greedy) feelings overflowing,
I asked my boss, “I want to buy every type to support our in-house project, so please give me an allowance,”
but it did not happen. *tears*
By the way, one costs 700 yen (tax included).

In addition to the winners, there is also a “Last Prize,” which goes to the person who buys the very last one. Here it is.
So this is what they mean by “good fortune comes to those who take what’s left”!

Last Prize

Jack from The Nightmare Before Christmas appears!

By the way… here is the item I personally recommend.

■ Winnie the Pooh – Bat ver.

Pooh

The fangs are adorable

It’s simply cute. Gentle Pooh with fangs—who would have thought! Also, don’t miss the cape that evokes Maleficent. And be sure to check out the cape from the back as well!

■ Winnie the Pooh – Ghost ver.

Pooh Bear

Glows in the dark

The highlight is Piglet attached to the foot. Piglet relaxing at Pooh’s feet is so soothing. So cute… Being able to enjoy two characters in one figure is unique to this one in the series. (Pooh appears twice because I personally love him.)

■ Donald Duck – Devil ver.

Donald

Even the cuffs are detailed!

I tend to think of Donald as often being angry, so this expression isn’t surprising, but a red Donald feels fresh. The ear design and the bat motif on the chest are wonderfully Halloween-like. There is an arrow on the foot, and when I wondered what it was, it turned out to be the devil’s tail. A meticulously detailed design, down to the smallest parts!

■ Mickey Mouse – Mummy ver.

Mickey

What a wicked face…

I was impressed, thinking this expression on Mickey is quite rare. I have seen Mickey looking like he is plotting something or getting angry, but I think it is rare to see Mickey as a mummy with such a scary (wicked) expression. It’s something you only get with Halloween.

■ Chip – Jack-o’-lantern ver.

Chip

Somehow soothing

This is a highly recommended item that feels very Halloween-like. The key point is the pumpkin belly that stands out even more than Chip’s face. The roundness of the belly and the pumpkin silhouette match perfectly—it’s utterly adorable.

By the way, I asked the person in charge at our company about the key points they were particular about.

“It’s rare to see Disney characters go this all-in on Halloween cosplay! The special box in particular is so luxurious and so rare that Disney fans and BE@RBRICK fans may want to try for it. You can find out on the spot whether you’ve won, so if you see it, please feel free to buy one like a game!”

That’s what they said. Indeed… I think Disney characters like these are rare.

It already feels like Halloween. “Pluto – Skeleton ver.” is also cute, and I recommend them all. BE@RBRICK is a Japan-born figure, so it would also make a great souvenir for Disney lovers overseas!
Recently, LINE announced its overseas expansion of manga, and Kadokawa and Dwango merged their management—watching the news, I am keeping an eye on industry trends, thinking that Japanese pop culture, including Cool Japan, may gain momentum and attract even more attention.

I am also personally watching BE@RBRICK, convinced it will draw even more attention from around the world going forward! “BE@RBRICK WOW!” features many more spooky-cute characters beyond those introduced here, so if you come across them, please do give it a try!
