Turning Premium Friday from a Day of “Consumption” to a Day of “Circulation”! We Held the Internal Event “Sunny Market”!

Hello! This is PR Sunny-chan.

Today marks the first Premium Friday of 2020! To celebrate, we held an internal event called “Sunny Market” starting at 3:00 PM.

“Sunny Market” is an event where members bring in personal items such as clothes and accessories they no longer use, transforming the office open space into a special flea market venue for sales.

By conducting this as a member-participation event, one of our goals is to create an opportunity for each individual to recognize issues such as the SDGs and “clothing waste” as challenges relevant to themselves.
*Clothing Waste Issue: Currently, over 3 billion items of clothing are disposed of annually in Japan.

Throughout this past week, members have been steadily bringing items from home to the office and pricing them internally.

Many wonderful items were collected, and the excitement was already high during the pricing stage! However, the real fun was saved for Friday at 3:00 PM…

Finally, the day arrived. Even on the morning of the event, many members rushed in with their personal items, leading to a “happy problem” where the pricing work continued right up until the last minute.

The venue for this event was the 7th-floor open space, located just outside the meeting rooms where we usually welcome guests. It is a high-traffic, lively area typically used for casual meetings.

The open space is quickly transformed into a special flea market venue.

Members brought in approximately 200 items! A wide variety of goods were collected, ranging from clothing to household appliances.

A vast array of products lined up, almost overflowing from the tables.

Finally, it was 3:00 PM! With the start of Premium Friday, “Sunny Market” officially opened for business.

The venue was crowded with members eager to see what items were available (some members were even waiting before 3:00 PM!).

“Does this look good on me?”

While browsing through the clothes on display, members engaged in internal communication that differed from the usual, with comments like “I think this would look great on you!” There were also moments where sellers spoke directly to potential buyers, desperately pitching their items while explaining the product details.

Furthermore, guests who visited our office today also took a look and made purchases. Thank you very much for your cooperation!

After enjoying their internal shopping, scenes of members showing off their purchases at their desks could be seen everywhere, making for a very lively Premium Friday.

The circle of circulation connects from member to member!

The first Premium Friday of 2020 was a day where we could not only promote the practice and understanding of SDGs by circulating unused personal items through the market but also enjoy a different kind of internal communication.

A portion of the proceeds from this event will be returned to employees as welfare expenses (such as lunch subsidies). Additionally, items that did not find a buyer will be donated to charitable organizations.

By taking the initiative to act toward achieving the SDGs while “having fun,” the SUNNY SIDE UP GROUP will continue its activities to contribute as much as possible to reaching the 2030 goals.

Following this great success, a second event has already been decided! Please look forward to the future activities of the SUNNY SIDE UP GROUP!
