Behind the Scenes with the President of SUNNY SIDE UP (Part 1)

Hello, I am Yamashita from the Public Relations department.

Our company’s website renewal project is currently underway!
(Please stay tuned!)

3D Figure of the President

The project members for the website renewal spend their days thinking about what kind of company SUNNY SIDE UP is and how we should represent SUNNY SIDE UP.

During this process, a challenging topic arose regarding how to handle projects related to the president. Here is the behind-the-scenes story.
First, regarding the president-related projects, I proposed a president interview series for this blog. The idea was to introduce various people involved with SUNNY SIDE UP, and have the president appear as the first guest.

However…

The president is extremely reluctant to step into the spotlight and refuses to show her face. Her favorite saying is, “Our value lies in working behind the scenes.”
(For more details, please see this blog post.)

Sometimes…

“Are you Golgo 13?!”

I feel like teasing her like that, but setting that aside…
I managed to persuade the reluctant president and conducted an interview! However, the interview project ended in failure and became a “phantom project.” Since it would be a waste to bury the interview in the shadows after all that effort, I have decided to make it public! (Laughs)

Please see below.

PR: I have prepared with great enthusiasm for this memorable first installment of our interview series! Madam President, thank you for your time. To start, could you tell us about the secret story behind the founding of SUNNY SIDE UP and the hardships you faced?

Tsugihara: …

PR: Building a company from scratch without any track record must have been difficult! Please tell us about that!

Tsugihara: …

PR: Um… Madam… President…? (Sweat)

Tsugihara: Hmm… being asked that again makes me realize that I haven’t really experienced what you’d call “hardships.” I’ve been running the company since I was 17. Of course, there were many difficult times, but I’ve never thought of it as “bitter labor.” Besides, even if there were, I feel it’s far too early to talk about “the old days.” That feels like something you do while sipping tea on a veranda when you’re much older. I’m still very much active in my career…

PR: Oh, no, I didn’t mean to treat you like an old person…

Tsugihara: This blog was started with the goal of delivering the “present” of the company to everyone in our own unique way, so that people can feel the potential in the “future” of SUNNY SIDE UP. If that’s the case, isn’t the “past” unnecessary? Of course, I’m prepared to talk about anything, but a stiff president interview that feels like a middle schooler’s work experience project just doesn’t feel like “us,” and it’s a bit embarrassing. By the way, I actually do those middle school work experience interviews every year…

PR: That… that is true… (Sweat)

Tsugihara: Firstly, just hearing the phrase “President Interview” is somewhat embarrassing. While it’s true that I should speak about SUNNY SIDE UP as one of the people who knows the company best, the very idea of making me the first interviewee is far too conventional and boring! It shows a lack of imagination.

PR: (Flustered)

Tsugihara: The people visiting this blog include shareholders, clients, students looking for jobs, employees, alumni, and families… though their perspectives differ, they are all people who have at least some interest in SUNNY SIDE UP. I would love to speak with them directly, but that is quite difficult. That’s why I want to talk about things they likely want to know and the “present” of the company. I hope this blog itself, not just my interview, becomes a place for that.

PR: I had a fixed idea that if we’re starting a company blog, we must begin with a president interview… At SUNNY SIDE UP, we’ve always created new value and rules by first questioning the “fixed ideas” that prevail in the world, haven’t we?

Tsugihara: Exactly. We’ve been scolded many times for that (laughs), but it’s also true that this power has sustained us. If I say that, I might get scolded again. But if we do, let’s just change it quietly each time. Quietly.
See, the advantage of a blog is that you can change or delete things anytime! (Laughs)

PR: I don’t want to be scolded or cause a social media firestorm! (Firmly) But you’re right, I want to make this blog itself a “fun stir.”

Although I tried to wrap things up neatly, I couldn’t leave empty-handed! So, I went back for a rematch with the president later.
I will report on that at a later date!
