The Early Bird Gets the Worm!? We Held “Poached Egg,” a Morning Meeting Where Members Share Trending Topics!
Hello everyone. I am Makino from PR Department 2, and I am already worried about whether I can survive the winter cold.

They say it takes three years for a peach or chestnut tree to bear fruit and eight for a persimmon, but even in my fourth year, I still have so much to learn about PR. I find myself rushing through every day while being tossed about by the rough waves of the industry.
In the midst of all this, I recently participated in my first “Poached Egg” meeting in my four years here, so I would like to report on the details.
First of all, for those wondering what on earth a “Poached Egg” is, let me give you a brief introduction!
Poached Egg is a very casual gathering where volunteer members of different ages and departments come together to share recent news and trends they have personally found interesting.
Furthermore, this meeting starts at 9:00 AM and is held while eating breakfast, which makes it feel incredibly refreshing!
Now, I would like to introduce some of the topics discussed at this Poached Egg session!
The “Short Story Vending Machine” Installed at a British University is Wonderful

A short story vending machine has been installed at the University of Lincoln in the UK and is attracting significant attention. By selecting a genre and length to suit your mood, a short story randomly chosen from a database is printed out on a receipt. Incidentally, it is said that by the end of the year, students and the general public will be able to submit their own works to the machine! It is perfect for those who want to try reading books they wouldn’t normally pick up. I hope this makes its way to Japan as well.
Will Calling Rideshare Cars from Home TVs Lower the Hurdle for the Elderly!?

In a demonstration experiment for the next-generation transportation service “MaaS” (Mobility as a Service) starting in December in Izu and Atami by Tokyu and JR East, a new service will be launched that allows users to call rideshare cars from their home televisions.
The goal of enabling dispatch via TV is to encourage not only tourists but also local residents to use the service as a means of transportation.
With the aim of practical implementation from fiscal 2020 onwards, once this is operational, the hurdle for calling rideshare cars will be lowered even for elderly people who do not own smartphones.
Google Lens is Quietly Amazing!

Google Lens is an app that allows you to use your camera or photos to search for things in front of you, improve work efficiency, and research your surroundings.
What makes this so impressive is that things you previously wanted to look up but couldn’t quite put into words can now be identified using this app. We truly live in a convenient era.
For example, if you are watching a TV drama and think an actor’s outfit is so cute that you want the same one, you can take a photo with this app and it will tell you the brand and the specific item, allowing you to get the same thing. Isn’t that incredible!
The Cross-Media Advertising Project “Asahi Shimbun x Eren the Southpaw” is Simply Incredible

On October 20, which is “Newspaper Advertising Day,” Asahi Shimbun collaborated with the popular web manga “Eren the Southpaw” to launch the “Newspaper Advertising Day Project: Asahi Shimbun x Eren the Southpaw Powered by JINS” (hereafter, Asahi Shimbun x Eren the Southpaw PJT). The design is complex, so let me explain a little…
In the “Asahi Shimbun x Eren the Southpaw PJT,” the orientation session by the advertiser was first published as a manga on October 19 on the content delivery site “cakes,” where “Eren the Southpaw” is serialized. On the following day, October 20 (Newspaper Advertising Day), the project proposals from two advertising agencies that received the orientation, along with the scenes from the planning meetings, were depicted across two full pages of the national morning edition.
Furthermore, the proposals from the two companies were released on the same day on a special website (https://www.asahi.com/ads/hidari-kikino-eren/) and on Twitter. The system allowed readers to vote by retweeting the Twitter posts for each proposal, and anyone could participate until Monday, October 28. (I voted too!)
Following the voting period, the proposal that received the most votes will actually be published as a full-page advertisement in the national morning edition in late November.
I was moved by this integrated promotion that started from “cakes,” centered on the Asahi Shimbun, and connected to Twitter. What a brilliant gimmick! As a fan of “Eren the Southpaw” to begin with, I found myself even more immersed, but regardless, it is truly impressive. I want to become the kind of person who can come up with projects like this…
I ended up going on a bit long because of my enthusiasm, but this Poached Egg session was very educational, covering everything from unique initiatives to information I hadn’t known before!
Please look forward to the next report!
