Hello! I am Sato from Division 4 of the Public Relations Business Headquarters.
June means the rainy season. The damp days can drag on and often leave you feeling down. This time, we will introduce facilities where you can lift your spirits, enjoy relaxing hot springs, and have fun even on rainy days!
When it comes to hot springs, Beppu Onsen in Oita Prefecture—Japan’s No. 1 in both the number of hot spring sources and the volume of water discharged—is well known. On January 26,the large-scale hot spring resortBeppu Onsen Suginoi Hotel opened its new flagship building, “Sorakan.” This time, I will be reporting on “Sorakan”!
I would be delighted if you not only discover the appeal of Beppu Onsen Suginoi Hotel, but also get to know SUNNY SIDE UP, which handles many regional hotel projects!
Enjoy a grand panoramic view you can only see here! Sorayu, the open-air observation bath
Beppu Onsen Suginoi Hotel opened its flagship building, “Sorakan,” on January 26. Named with the image of “an endless sky spreading above the great heavens,” Sorakan symbolizes the evolution of the reborn Suginoi Hotel as it continues to expand into an even bigger world.
Since opening in 1944, Suginoi Hotel has been loved for nearly 80 years as one of Western Japan’s leading large-scale hot spring resorts. It is a large hot spring resort hotel packed with entertainment, including a large open-air observation bath, pools, a bowling alley, fountain shows, projection mapping, a kids’ area, and more.
In 2019, the hotel announced a major renovation project and has been progressively building new facilities such as Sorakan and expanding its entertainment content. The reborn Suginoi Hotel is scheduled to hold its grand opening in 2025!

A fantastical panoramic open-air observation bath, “Sorayu”
Located on the top floor at approximately 250 m above sea level, “Sorayu” is a spectacular open-air hot spring with breathtaking views, available exclusively to Sorakan guests. You can also enjoy the expansive scenery from the glass-walled indoor bath and sauna. Another highlight is being able to experience Beppu’s many faces depending on the season and time of day—its cityscape, Beppu Bay, Mt. Tsurumi, and the rising steam from Kannawa Onsen!

“TERRACE & DINING SORA” is a Western-style buffet restaurant offering a wide variety of dishes incorporating locally sourced ingredients from Kyushu and Oita. At the open kitchen where food is prepared right in front of you, the recommended item is the “salt-crusted roasted beef round,” carved and served on the spot!

In addition, there is an extensive lineup of varied menu options—from Japanese cuisine such as sushi and sashimi to Chinese dishes—enjoyable for everyone from children to adults. In particular, the Mont Blanc made right in front of you by the pastry chef was truly exciting!

Experience a relaxing moment in spacious guest rooms surrounded by Beppu’s nature!

Guest room (Deluxe) with the theme color “Seikai,” inspired by Beppu Bay
Featuring a design that expresses Beppu’s abundant nature surrounded by sea and mountains, and large windows, the guest rooms offer an open, resort-like atmosphere. There are five room types in three theme colors inspired by Beppu’s nature: Seikai, Forest, and Yuunagi.
All rooms are equipped with a room tablet featuring functions such as congestion status display and pre-payment, allowing you to enjoy a comfortable, stress-free stay.
The deluxe room we stayed in this time featured “Seikai” as its theme color, and we were able to take in a sweeping view of Beppu’s city and the sea through the large windows! Someday, I would love to stay in the suite room I have always admired.
