The cherry blossom season is in full swing and April has arrived! In the spirit of new beginnings, the SUNNY SIDE UP GROUP welcomed their biggest group yet, with 25 new members joining the team!🌸

Let me begin by reporting on today’s induction ceremony!

Where did you go for a walk with pedals on your head?

Professional photographers will be taking pictures, so the new members came early to do their hair. The first day of work is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, so it is nice to be in your best looks! 💇‍♀️

Everyone looked sleepy(?) at first, but reality kicked in, and they began to feel a bit nervous…!

I would like to congratulate you all today. I am so happy to be able to welcome you to the induction ceremony without a mask, in beautiful weather, and with the cherry blossoms still in bloom.

I can imagine what it was like spending college life during COVID-19. Therefore, I hope you will join our group and have a great time, and I hope you will make a “fun commotion” to make up for it!

Masato Kokubo [President of SUNNY SIDE UP]：

Congratulations to all of you! This year, we have the largest number of new members ever. From here, we hope to increase the number of people in the SUNNY SIDE UP GROUP, and through the success of these members, we will be able to grow the company and give birth to new businesses.

We hope that you will cherish the feeling you had when joining SUNNY SIDE UP and take on various challenges after you join the company. We are looking forward to your success!

President Mizuyo Kamide [President of Steady Study]： 

“Teamwork” is something that Steady Study has always valued. I believe that the company is what it is today because of the teamwork that we built day by day.

I believe that by remembering to be humble every day, keeping a smile on our faces, and letting everyone’s good vibes into the company, we have created a strong teamwork that has led us to where we are today. For your first year, I think it is fine to take the stance of doing anything you can. We would like to have you work hard and work together as a team in an environment where you can enjoy every day. Etsuko Tsugihara presented a certificate of employment, Rie Matsumoto presented a fountain pen, a memento that has been given to SUNNY SIDE UP’s new employees for generations, and “Employee’s Guide Book” written by Konosuke Matsushita, who founded Panasonic, the largest Japanese consumer electronics company, with all the wishes for their success🎁

Congratulations! SUNNY SIDE UP GROUP has been giving out employee guidebooks and fountain pens as gifts to new members for generations.

Today you are joining our group as professionals. I was once told by a respected president, “Professionals take very good care of their work tools.” If our job is through communication, we thought a fountain pen would be our work tool. That is why we have given this as a gift for generations.

Our work uses words. Today, there are many methods of writing words, such as smartphones and computers. There may not be many people who use fountain pens anymore.

However, I hope to convey my wish that people will take responsibility for the words they write, just like the characteristics of fountain pens, which cannot be erased once written and require some time to dry.

Every year, I choose the brand of our fountain pen with the faces of everyone in mind, and this year we chose “Monteverde,” an American brand. 

The brand was born in the U.S. in 2001, just about the same year that you were born, and was launched with the hope that it would be used by people of all genders, nationalities, and ages.

Today I am presenting a brand new product that is inspired by a rare “tree” in the world. This year is a new year for the SUNNY SIDE UP GROUP as well, as we begin to resolve social issues while valuing diversity. We chose them because we thought they would be perfect for everyone who will be welcoming this year. Please open it up and take a look at the fountain pens that have been designed with the image of three different precious trees. We look forward to your future success!

They explained with great care how happy and excited to finally join SUNNY SIDE UP, and most of all, how they wanted to create a new “Fun Buzz!”🐣

The ceremony is then concluded with a congratulations speech from Etsuko Tsugihara, the President of SUNNY SIDE UP GROUP.

Congratulations on joining our company. I really appreciate that you chose SUNNY SIDE UP GROUP out of all the companies. I am very happy to have met you today out of the 430,000 new working adults.

What have the past three years been like for you all? It may not have been the college life you thought it would be because of COVID-19, but the world has changed tremendously in the past three years.

With the digital shift, all kinds of services that were unimaginable three years ago have been born into this world. People have turned every crisis into an opportunity, and I wonder if we can think of the past three years as three lost years or three years of great meaning for the future. I hope it is the latter.

There will probably come a time in the future when you will have trouble with relationships or wonder if things are different from what you imagined. However, people are not perfect. I think the meaning of a company’s existence in this world is to work toward a single goal with people that have abilities and personalities that you do not have.

I believe that a company can only survive if it continues to evolve along with the changing times, and the unique characteristics and aspirations of its members who have gathered.

Someone who will change the company and create the future of the company. I believe everyone here can do it. This is why we chose you.

For 38 years, SUNNY SIDE UP has been changing all the time, while still valuing the same things. We would like to continue to change in the future. Everyone’s “fun” may be different, but I hope that everyone will find their own “fun” to the fullest at this company.

And I hope that one day, when you get really old and look back on your life, you will be able to think of it as a happy moment and that your days at SUNNY SIDE UP will be an important factor in it.

This is my strong wish every year when I welcome new employees to the company. Let’s create a fun buzz! Let’s make it happen together!
