Hello, everyone! I’m Takeshima from SUNNY SIDE UP.

A groundbreaking new product that overturns conventional wisdom in high-rise construction has been born! The stage was “Blue Front Shibaura,” a new landmark in Minato Ward’s Shibaura area. We bring you coverage of the media product launch event for Komatsu Wall Industry Co., Ltd.’s (hereinafter “Komatsu Wall”) movable partition for high-rise building exteriors, “SKYDOOR,” held at this location.

SUNNY SIDE UP served as the PR secretariat for this project, handling PR communications from overall concept development and content planning to day-of operations and media outreach.

Takeshima, who was in charge of this project, will report on the event!

About Komatsu Wall

Komatsu Wall was founded in Komatsu City, Ishikawa Prefecture in 1968. As a leading company in partitions, it has been involved in creating spaces throughout Japan, including offices, public facilities, and educational settings.

This was Komatsu Wall’s “first” media press conference! Together with joint development partners Nomura Real Estate, Maki and Associates, and Shimizu Corporation, it was truly a memorable day to launch a new product that represents the culmination of years of technological expertise.

Industry First! What is “SKYDOOR,” Which Achieved Full Opening at 138m Above Ground!

“SKYDOOR” is Komatsu Wall’s masterpiece new product, jointly developed over approximately five years under a strong partnership with three companies!

What stands out is its overwhelming performance that can withstand the harsh environment of ultra-high floors! It clears remarkable specifications: wind pressure resistance “S-7,” airtightness “A-4,” and watertightness “W-5” that prevents water intrusion even in storms equivalent to wind speeds of 43m/s. This has made possible the innovative experience of “fully opening windows” for the first time in the industry※ in a space 138m above ground, which was previously considered technically impossible.

※As of March 2026, according to Komatsu Wall research. As a fully openable movable partition for exteriors installed in domestic skyscrapers (height 138m or above)

The Day of the Press Conference! Distinguished Speakers Discuss “Connection with the Sky”

Shinya Kano, President and Representative Director of Komatsu Wall

At the opening of the press conference, Shinya Kano, President and Representative Director of Komatsu Wall, gave opening remarks.

Next, Shinichi Tabata, General Manager of the Running Wall Division who led the development, gave a product presentation. He spoke passionately about the technology behind creating safe and open spaces, and the potential for utilization in future architectural settings.

In the latter half, a special session unfolded with Gary Kamemoto, President and Representative Director of Maki and Associates, the architect who has been leading the “Shibaura Redevelopment Project” since 2016, with Shingo Kagami, Visiting Professor at the Graduate School of Project Design, serving as moderator!

Kamemoto stated, “Even on high floors, being able to feel a ‘connection with the sky’ through natural light and wind is directly linked to essential human richness—in other words, improved well-being. SKYDOOR is an innovative device that makes this possible,” emphasizing the product’s value from a designer’s perspective.

Kagami also conveyed its importance, saying, “Future office buildings require not just functionality, but ‘experiential value that can only be enjoyed there.’ As the term Tokyo Workation suggests, an environment where you can feel close to the sky is the future form of next-generation cities.”

“New experiential value” born beyond the limits of technology—passionate discussions were exchanged throughout!

Scenes from Komatsu Wall's

We Asked the Team Members!

Editorial Department’s Sanada spoke with Takeshima, who handled overall production for this project, and Kuwasaki from the SR Department, who handled media outreach!

——In planning and producing Komatsu Wall’s first media press conference, what points did you focus on most, and what were the hurdles?

This was Komatsu Wall’s first press conference. We started by verbalizing the goal: “What value and corporate stance should we convey to the world through this press conference?”

We thoroughly maintained a style where we always presented specific plans first from our side, then refined them while receiving input from the client. It was truly a collaborative planning process that combined the client’s vision with our perspective as PR and communication professionals.

On the operational side, since the venue was on the 28th floor, complex flow management was a major challenge, such as “Will guests be able to find their way without getting lost?” and “Can we start on time?” The situation required more guidance staff than initially anticipated, but over 30 Komatsu Wall employees voluntarily stepped up to support reception and guidance! The fact that the client and we were able to unite as “one team” was the greatest key to success. We received highly satisfied feedback from the invited stakeholders as well. The fact that President Kano and everyone at the client were genuinely pleased was the greatest joy!

—Please tell us about the media response.

We received wonderful feedback from the media saying it was “a highly satisfying press conference”! Typically, product launch events in the construction industry are limited to product introductions within the company’s own facilities. However, this time we chose a facility where the product is actually installed as the venue, allowing participants to experience a realistic usage image.

Furthermore, by adding a talk session with architect Gary Kamemoto and Shingo Kagami, Visiting Professor at the Graduate School of Project Design, we received much favorable feedback that “we were able to learn deeply about one product from multiple perspectives.”
