Hello! I’m Min from Social Relations Division 3. I love eating, and I’ve completely become known in the office as the big eater.

The muggy air, the breeze starting to carry a hint of heat, and that unmistakable scent of summer. I can feel the hot summer drawing closer every day, and I can’t stop getting excited.

Why all the excitement…? Because summer is for leisure! The beach, the pool, camping—there’s so much fun to look forward to.

And among the must-have summer activities, the classic is “BBQ” of course!

This time, as the person in charge of PR for Royal Holdings—known for brands such as Royal Host—I’d like to share the appeal of the limited-time “Sizzler BBQ Terrace,” offered by Sizzler, the premium salad bar grill restaurant known for using high-quality ingredients, among its many brands!

◾️ What is “Sizzler”?

“Sizzler” is a premium salad bar grill restaurant that traces its roots back to the “Sizzler Family Steak House,” founded in California, USA, in 1958.

Beloved by many fans for its carefully selected, sizzling high-quality ingredients and friendly, hospitality-filled service, the brand came to Japan in 1991.

When you think of Sizzler, the signature favorite is the Premium Salad Bar, where you can enjoy your fill of more than 70 items—seasonal fresh vegetables, deli salads, soups, fruit, pasta, curry, tacos, desserts, drinks, and more!

The salad bar is kept exceptionally fresh thanks to rigorous temperature control (measured twice a day) and negative ions continuously released, allowing you to experience the crisp, juicy, natural deliciousness of vegetables like you rarely can—both in texture and taste.

There’s so much variety that you can’t help but hesitate over what to pick up… Rumor has it that first-timers often end up spending more than 10 minutes at the salad bar before they realize it…

The hot foods like curry and pasta are, of course, outstanding as well! With that Royal-quality deliciousness, you can more than enjoy yourself with just the salad bar.

◾️ Terrace seating with an unbeatable location and an amazing open-air feel

I ended up getting carried away talking about the Premium Salad Bar, but what we came for this time is the “Sizzler BBQ Terrace.”

Now in its fourth year, the “Sizzler BBQ Terrace” is a limited menu available only at the “Sizzler Aqua City Odaiba” location—one of Sizzler’s nine stores—and only during the spring-to-summer season.

As soon as we entered and stepped out onto the terrace we were shown to, we were greeted first by this spectacular view!

Beyond the Rainbow Bridge spanning Tokyo Bay, you can see Tokyo Tower—an absolutely perfect location to enjoy.

There is also a photo spot in collaboration with Heineken.

On the terrace at night, wrapped in a stylish atmosphere sparkling with neon alongside the illuminated Tokyo Bay, gathering around a BBQ with a Heineken in hand is sure to deepen bonds with friends.

◾️ A divine BBQ enjoyed on an exquisite grill featuring only high-quality ingredients

Once you’re seated, Sizzler staff will explain how to enjoy the BBQ.

This time, we were taught directly by Store Manager Honma of the Aqua City Odaiba location, who even obtained a “BBQ Certification” specifically for the “Sizzler BBQ Terrace”!

First, he introduced the grill used for the BBQ.

Instead of the stove-style grills commonly seen in Japan, they use a lidded grill made by Weber in the USA.

What makes this grill amazing is that you simply arrange the ingredients and leave them, and it finishes as if it were baked in an oven.

The secret lies in its structure, which promotes heat convection rather than direct flame. It heats quickly at high temperature, so it doesn’t let moisture escape!

Anyone can enjoy meat so tender a knife slides right in, with juices bursting out, simply by grilling each side for 6 minutes using the included timer.

What our team tried was the “Triple Meat Plate.”

This plate brings together the three musketeers—beef, chicken, and lamb—and comes with a baked potato, a vegetable platter, and the salad bar. The vegetable platter and Sizzler’s famous cheese toast are even refillable.

First onto the grill were Mitsuse chicken thigh and lamb chops.

Raised freely under carefully considered methods on a farm surrounded by rich nature in the mountains of northern Kyushu, “Mitsuse chicken” is renowned as an ingredient that is healthy and low in fat, yet still has well-developed umami and high-quality fat.

The lamb chops use free-range lamb under 12 months old from Australia’s great outdoors. The meat is carefully cut from whole cuts in-store and served, and it has no gamey odor at all. It’s characterized by a tender texture that’s easy to bite through.

The crispy skin and springy meat of the Mitsuse chicken, and the lamb’s flavor wrapped in just the right amount of fat—simply the best. I couldn’t stop eating.

Now, next up was the long-awaited beef… but just as I lifted the tongs, the manager stopped me.

“The grill temperature has dropped, so we’ll close the lid once to bring it back up to high heat.”

When we checked the thermometer, the temperature that had been around 200°C earlier had indeed dropped to around 150°C.

He said it would warm back up in about 5–10 minutes, so we went for salad bar refills in the meantime. That’s a very Sizzler way to enjoy it—no waiting time at all.

The temperature inside the grill rose to 200°C, and we were ready to go!

We lined up the large ribeye steaks on the grill and spent the 12 minutes that made us hungrier than ever: “6 minutes on one side, flip, then another 6 minutes.”

The timer rang, and it was time to open it up!!

Look at the surface of the meat, wrapped in that glistening fat. There’s no doubt it’s delicious. When you take a bite, not only do the juices spread, but the meat’s natural umami rushes in all at once.

What’s more surprising is that it’s “sauce-free.” The ribeye steak, Mitsuse chicken, and lamb are all already seasoned when served with just salt and pepper, and honestly, you can keep eating without getting tired of it.

It was a BBQ that let us experience the essence of Sizzler’s commitment to sourcing high-quality ingredients.

Of course, when it comes to Royal brands, you can’t forget the “sauce”—and they have it, too! You can also enjoy a different deliciousness by dipping it in the “Onion Pepper Sauce,” made with onions slowly sautéed until amber-colored and seasoned with black pepper.

◾️ Not only meat—seafood plates are also available! And plenty of add-ons if you want more

This time we tried the meat plate, but there’s also a seafood plate!

With large scallops, salmon, sea tiger and shrimp, and even a new “lobster” on the Special Seafood Plate with an irresistible springy texture, it’s a must for shrimp lovers.

In addition, there are plenty of add-on options for those who want to enjoy both meat and seafood!! For meat, you can choose the massive “Tomahawk Steak” that comes with the Special Meat Plate, or select a ribeye steak in your preferred gram amount.

For seafood, you can choose from scallops, shrimp, and salmon. This time, we added “scallops”! Just like before, we cooked them for 6 minutes per side.

The key to enjoying seafood is to grill the included lemon as well.

With Weber’s lidded grill, closing the lid firmly keeps the heat inside and prevents moisture from escaping.
This applies to fruit and vegetables as well—grilling lemon keeps the moisture while the heat drives off only the sharp acidity, they said.

Since we couldn’t quite picture it, the manager demonstrated, and we couldn’t help but exclaim, “Whoa!!” at the sight.

You can see it even in the photo: lemon juice gushes out and envelops the scallops.

We tried the scallops right away—still springy and juicy!!
With heat, the lemon’s acidity transforms into a refreshing brightness, bringing out the scallops’ deliciousness.

By the way, a recommended ingredient that takes advantage of acidity dissipating with heat is “pineapple.” Sizzler uses only the high-sugar “Kan-juku Oh” brand for its pineapple, so by combining the ingredient with the cooking method, it turns out unbelievably—extremely—sweet.

If you visit, be sure to try it!

◾️ A flavor you can only get at Sizzler: the beloved “Cheese Toast” with countless fans

Suddenly, everyone—do you know Sizzler’s “Cheese Toast”??

If you come to Sizzler, you absolutely must try it. Do not underestimate it as “just” cheese toast.

Sizzler’s cheese toast was developed in the United States more than 50 years ago.

It features bread spread with an original Parmesan cheese spread and toasted on a griddle until golden brown, and the method has been passed down at Sizzler locations worldwide.

In Japan, by the way, they are also particular about the bread they use.

Bread made specifically for cheese toast—researched and developed to bring out the best pairing with cheese, a fluffy texture, and a gentle bread aroma—is processed at the Royal Group’s central kitchen and used in stores.

It gained many fans and, although it was once removed from the menu for various reasons, it returned due to overwhelming demand and remains a beloved signature item to this day.

This “Cheese Toast” is, of course, delicious as-is, but we also recommend trying it with your own twists!

I indulged by topping it with ribeye steak and eating it “steak-sandwich style”—delicious! It was the perfect arrangement.

Other ideas include using fresh vegetables from the Premium Salad Bar to make it “BLT-sandwich style,” or using taco fillings for a “HOT spicy-sandwich style,” and more.

Please come up with and enjoy your own original sandwich!!
