Back in action after three years! Introducing the activities of SUNNY SIDE UP GROUP’s tennis club “Smash.” | Club Activity Spotlight
Hello everyone. I am Yoshimatsu from Division 1, Public Relations Business Headquarters.
This time, I will introduce SUNNY SIDE UP GROUP’s tennis club, affectionately known as “Smash.”
The only requirement to join “Smash.” is having the desire to enjoy tennis. You can join even if you do not own a racket or have never held one before. As a result, the club includes a wide range of members—from those who devoted their youth to tennis in their student days to complete beginners who have never held a racket in their lives.
This time, we went behind the scenes at a “Smash.” practice session. We will report on everything from the friendly atmosphere of playing tennis across departments and age groups to the post-practice review session (also known as a social gathering?).
Given this summer’s record-breaking heat, we took precautions against heatstroke by renting two indoor tennis courts next to Shinagawa Prince Hotel.

[32 Benefits] A PR agency’s club activities extend all the way to “sharing information”! In honor of Sports Autumn, we introduce our in-house clubs!
Scenes from the activities

As many participants were playing tennis for the first time since their student days—or had never held a racket before—we began with a ball-feeding drill, hitting the ball by hand. (It really feels like a school club!)

A member who attends tennis school after work served as the coach and provided passionate instruction. Thanks to that, the beginner members quickly started hitting the ball well! (It looks like someone clearly came here by mistake, thinking it was a soccer stadium.)

After an intensive practice session, we held a team match, splitting into two teams. We played in a rally format, alternating every two balls. To put the results of practice to the test, beginners and experienced players alike competed head-on! “One more time!” “Just one more!” There are many sore losers at SUNNY SIDE UP, and that is one of the best things about “Smash.”—it is hard to end. Some beginners were also quick to pick up the knack, and there were moments when they scored points against experienced players, making the practice highly exciting!
A post-practice “review session” over Chinese food!?

After plenty of exercise, we held a “review session” (i.e., a social gathering) at a Chinese restaurant. It also became a great opportunity for members from different divisions to get to know each other through tennis. (Tennis is not over until you have eaten Chinese food.)
How was it? Are you starting to feel like playing tennis? If you join SUNNY SIDE UP GROUP, we would be delighted to play tennis with you!
We are also looking for companies that would be willing to arrange practice matches with us, so if you would like to take us on, please feel free to contact us at any time!
We will continue to share updates on our other clubs as well. Please look forward to the next one!
