Your unique “individuality” will become a strength to this company! President talks about wise Integration|Part 1
One afternoon at the office.
Tamura “Mr. Miyazawa, could you let me interview you on SUNNY DAYS…!”
Miyazawa “Hmm, as long as it’s after the Imperial Palace run or something (joking)”
Tamura “Really? Thank you very much!! (seriously)”
Miyazawa “What…?”
This project began with a joke that was taken seriously. The person I interviewed was Miyazawa, President and Representative Director of our group company, wise integration .co., ltd.(One of the group companies of SUNNY SIDE UP GROUP Inc.)
The author had not run for the first time since high school, so he was anxious, but with only his motivation and spirit, he was ready to go! The following is a full report on the Imperial Palace run, the business and vision of wise integration, and Miyazawa himself.
【Introduction of the members】
Miyazawa Takeomi, President and Representative Director, wise integration co,ltd.
■Gather at the Imperial Palace on a sunny day!
After changing clothes, we gathered at the Imperial Palace, where we all stretched carefully to avoid injury, and then confirmed the route we would take today.
Still, we started our first run at the Imperial Palace, relying only on the enthusiasm we brought with us!
We don’t usually have many opportunities to talk outside of work, so we talk about Miyazawa himself, us, his work, and many other things as we make our rounds around the Imperial Palace.
We were so engrossed in our conversation that we forgot to enjoy the scenery, and we ran up and down the slopes in the latter half of the race without taking a single rest! We did our best! It was fun!
After successfully completing our debut run at the Imperial Palace, we had a leisurely cup of coffee before moving on to the interview.
■Background to joining wise integration
After graduating from university, I joined an advertising agency as a new graduate. I wanted to be a copywriter when I was a university student, and I thought that if I created my own projects, I could go and meet the people and companies I liked.
During the eight and a half years I worked there, I just did what I liked. For example, I loved music and movies, so I thought, “How can I connect with all the record companies?” I planned a paper on Western music for business people in the Nikkei newspaper. I went to record companies to sell them slots for the paper and brought CDs to TOWER RECORDS Shinjuku every week to have them write reviews of new CDs for the editorial articles. The manager of the Shinjuku store at that time was Mr. Minewaki, the current president of TOWER RECORDS, and I always enjoyed listening to his passionate stories about the music scene. Immediately after joining the company, I told my seniors, “I don’t need any projects to take over (laugh),” and did all the project planning myself. I even made an appointment with a fishing tackle manufacturer because I like fishing. I made a lot of mistakes during my eight and a half years at the ad agency, but looking back, I realize that it was a repetition of doing the planning myself, going to see someone, and making both myself and the client happy.
After leaving that ad agency, I experienced starting up a music label, and then joined wise integration. When I interviewed with the executives, I was impressed by their aura. I remember that I wanted to follow them, and that was the deciding factor for me to join the company. At that time, I joined the company in the position of sales planning to develop advertising agencies. After joining the company as a member, I was entrusted with the responsibility of representing the company in this way, and I believe this is the result of my decision to consider the growth of the company and what I want to do.
■Turning points since joining the company
There were three turning points for me. The first was when we left our work with agencies and started dealing directly with clients, and the second was when we started our own educational business. As we sought to leverage our strengths in manufacturing and planning, one opportunity led us to start a children’s programming education business. It was a challenge to enter the world of education, a field I was completely unfamiliar with, but I knew that for the company to grow further, we needed a business in which we could take the initiative, not just a business outsourced to us. I felt that we could do it if all the members worked together, and decided to take on the challenge.
The third turning point is now. A few months ago, we launched a brand commerce division to connect directly with consumers (fans). When I thought about the future of marketing business, I realized that it is very important to connect directly with consumers. For example, when a product we developed is placed in a supermarket, we do not know who bought it and when, but by connecting directly with customers through brand commerce, we can know what customers buy at what time during the year as our own data. Once we have a proper understanding of consumers, we will be able to develop products and services that meet their needs. We have just launched our brand commerce division, but in the future we would like to increase the number of businesses that can connect directly with customers with their own brands and services, with an emphasis on speed.
How was it? In the second half of the interview, we will hear more about the corporate culture of wise integration, its members, and future prospects. Stay tuned for the next installment!
