The festival has finally begun! “Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia 2022” PR to convey the appeal of the festival!

Celebrities making show stopping appearances with their beautiful dresses and suits on the red carpet… Famous directors and famous actors all gathered in one place to be at this glamorous event… Today, we will introduce the Short Shorts Film Festival.

“Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia”, one of Asia’s largest international short film festivals accredited by the U.S. Academy Awards, has opened this year too! This is the project that we, SUNNY SIDE UP, assist the PR since we handle a wide range of film festivals around Japan.

The opening ceremony was held at LINE CUBE SHIBUYA (Shibuya Public Hall) on June 7th, and Sho Aoyagi, Tina Tamashiro, Yudai Chiba, Eita Nagayama, and Atsuko Maeda, who directed a film for the first time, all took the stage.

”WOWOW Actors Short Films 2” Talk Session, where the actors took on the challenge of directing a short film.

In the talk session, the actors, who are on the receiving end of being filmed, took on the challenge of directing a film, and commented on the film they directed, including what they found interesting and what they found difficult.

Mr. Aoyagi said, “There were times when I was in a state of confusion, but there were no overall difficulties. The cast was too good for me, so I tried my best to capture the best parts of the cast. He commented like a director.”

Ms. Tamashiro commented on her own work, “I also wrote the script for this film, and I chose the story from a list of stories I had already written. I wrote it as a way to express myself, thinking that it would be good if someone could listen to my feelings, in a therapeutic sense.”

Mr. Chiba, who also starred in his own film, commented, “I wrote the script myself and performed in it, but it was so hard to remember the lines that started to question who wrote them. He drew laughter from the audience.”

Mr. Nagayama said, “I thought I had written a proper script, but Mr. Yakusho, the lead actor, mentioned that it was more like a memo…,” but he still agreed to appear in the film. “I wanted to film what happens on the set, without prescribing lines or details.”

Ms. Maeda said, “I asked my good friends Ms. Erisa Yanagi and Mr. Takahiro Miura to appear in the film. I wanted to depict friendship between women, but after discussing with the scriptwriter, Ms. Shuko Nemoto, that it did not have to be between two women, I offered Mr. Miura a female role without telling him, and he played a wonderful woman. I answered with a smile.”

Branded Shorts 2022, held on Tuesday, June 14, awarded the “Branded Shorts of the Year” award to the best branded movie out of more than 500 branding short films (branded movies) produced by companies and advertising agencies all around the world. The awards ceremony will be held on June 20 (Mon.) at Meiji Jingu Memorial Hall to announce the winners and present the awards. The winner of the George Lucas Award, the Grand Prix, will be announced, as well as the nominees for the Academy Awards in the short film category. Please look forward to hearing about it!

Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia 2022 will be screene at four venues in Tokyo and online from Tuesday, June 7 to Monday, June 20.

Some films will be available at online venues until June 30 (Thu.).
