Two members of SUNNY SIDE UP were interviewed! What led them to pursue a career in PR, and what does their daily schedule look like?
Hello, this is PR Sunny-chan!
Recently, Miki Ogawa from the Sports Division and Noriaki Murata from the Account Planning Department were interviewed and featured in the web media outlet “4 years.” and the book “Advertising Industry Job Hunting Guide”!This time, we would like to share part of that content on our owned media, “SUNNY DAYS“!
Experience as an ice hockey team manager that inspired her to pursue a career in sports
Ogawa was featured in the university-sports-focused digital media outlet “4 years.” She says that the four years she spent as the manager of Waseda University’s ice hockey team have become a valuable asset now that she is in the working world.

For her, who worked hard at both badminton and academics through high school and valued balancing sports and studies, there was a gap in values between herself and players who had devoted themselves solely to ice hockey since childhood, and she apparently felt confusedat first. However, as she continued tocommunicate with them, she came to understand how people with different backgrounds think—“Because they have had these experiences, they prioritize these things; because of that, they think this way, they think that way,”.
In addition, her experience planning and running the Waseda–Keio match-up behind the scenes encouraged her desire to “work in sports” and, she says, ultimately led her to her current role at SUNNY SIDE UP!
After joining the company, her positive attitude remained unchanged. She decided to make English her strength andimmediately approached the company directly to request a language-study program abroad, taking a one-year leave to study overseas. Now, remarkably, more than half of the projects she handles are for overseasclients! Even after becoming a working professional, she says her starting point has not changed, and she intends never to forget the manager-era mindset of running around while keeping her mind working at full speed.
What is important as a PR planner is to always keep an eye on both the majority and the minority!
The second person is Murata, a PR planner featured in the book “Advertising Industry Job Hunting Guide 2021“!

In the “Advertising Industry Job Hunting Guide,” which compiles advertising work into a single volume—from business models and job research to the latest trends—Murata’s view of what a PR planner does, what led him to enter the industry, and what hedid during his job search are introduced, among other topics.
In his view, a PR planner is someone who builds and deepens relationships between products/services and consumers/the public. Rather than simply communicating a product’s or service’s strengths and features, the real skill lies in analyzing what society wants and thinking about how best to convey it.
What is important, he says, is to understand the average values of society while always keeping an eye on both the majority and the minority. He also says it is important to think about what lies behind fads and trends and to try to identify the factors driving them. In addition, plenty of information about PR planner Murata is introduced, including recent work he has handled, memorable projects, his daily schedule, and even how he spends his days off!
They are members who support PR for numerous products and services, but we are still in the process of sharing what their work is actually like. In that context, we are truly delighted to have been featured by a variety of media outlets!
