A Day in the Life: Following a Third-Year Media Promoter
The young ginkgo leaves lining the street in front of Sendagaya Station shine brilliantly in the early summer sun these days. The 32 new graduates of SUNNY SIDE UP GROUP who completed their training have begun their careers as PR professionals at their respective assigned departments.
Students and new members of society who have reached milestones such as advancing to the next grade, entering higher education, or starting employment may feel that their new lives truly begin after Golden Week ends. For senior employees welcoming many new juniors, this season of change brings an even greater sense of focus.
At this time filled with anticipation of new “exciting buzz,” we are launching our long-awaited new series, “A Day in the Life of Our Members!”
Leading off is Yamaguchi, who just entered his third year with the company as a new graduate this April.
We follow his day at the Social Relations Division (SR Division), which specializes in media relations, to explore how our young members spend their days.
This content is designed for those with questions such as “What kind of work does a PR company do?” and “What is it like to work at SUNNY SIDE UP as a new graduate?”
Please also pay attention to our pride and joy, “TKG!”
Member Introduction🥚

Public Relations Business Division/Social Relations Division/Department 3/Group 3 Sho Yamaguchi Joined as a new graduate in 2023. His hobby is baseball, which he has been playing since elementary school—he loves both playing and watching! Recently, he has been mainly handling projects in the food and restaurant industries and sports events.
A Day’s Schedule🔍
|10:00 Arrival at Office

While using a hybrid work style combining office attendance and remote work, he tends to come to the office relatively often. The advantage of coming to the office is the ease of communication. Casual conversation is unique to face-to-face interaction.
During the commute, he uses the travel time to check the latest news. He focuses on gathering information about industries related to the projects he is handling at the time, and recently has been keeping an eye on the restaurant industry. In addition, he always follows news about sports he has loved since childhood—especially baseball and soccer!
|10:30 Publication Newspaper Check

Work begins with checking the latest information and media exposure. He carefully checks magazines and newspapers in the office’s “Media Lab,” picks up information, and shares it with team members.
When inputting information, he is conscious of capturing both “what is trending now” and “what is coming next,” using this to facilitate conversation topics with people outside the company.
|11:00 Internal Meeting

The team meeting on this day was held in person. They share awareness within the team for project progress management. The basic structure consists of about 4 to 5 people: 2 sales members (client representatives) and 2 to 3 SR Division members (media representatives). Among the projects he participates in, there is one with about 15 members.
This setting, where experienced members gather, is a reassuring environment where he can receive advice from multiple perspectives and experiences on issues that would be difficult to resolve alone.
|12:00 Lunch

Being able to eat delicious lunch boxes every day is a privilege of living with family! He brings only side dishes and eats them with rice cooked at the company and raw eggs—he is a heavy user of the “TKG” system.
The Sendagaya/Kita-Sando area where the office is located attracts food trucks of various genres, and he sometimes goes out with fellow new graduates depending on the day’s mood. Since lunch also provides an opportunity to talk with seniors and juniors with whom he does not yet have much work-related interaction, it is one of the important communication opportunities.

His favorite side dish is tamagoyaki (rolled omelet)
|13:00 Online Meeting with Client

After taking a break at lunch, he switches gears for a meeting with the client. Today it is online, but sometimes he visits the client’s office or they visit the company.
They discuss future PR strategies and direction, and sometimes make project proposals. Good ideas are adopted regardless of years of experience. Just the other day, something he proposed took shape at a certain event.
Because SUNNY SIDE UP’s strength lies in building media relations, we can make proposals that reflect “the voices of media professionals” and capture trends!
|14:00 PR Activities

To get the projects he is handling covered by media as much as possible, he communicates with media representatives via email, phone, and sometimes in person.
Even when there is no immediate news that can be featured in an article, he feels that maintaining frequent communication with media professionals is important for building trust. In fact, he sometimes has conversations triggered by consulting about information or projects scheduled to be announced in the near future, and by accumulating such exchanges, he feels that a relationship where they can naturally talk easily on a daily basis is being built.
He realizes daily that PR work is not just about delivering information one-way, but that building relationships to think together with media professionals about “what form of communication would be interesting” is also important.
|17:00 Internal Document Preparation
He prepares materials to be used at events and proposal materials for media professionals. Events require attendee lists, and while there are fluctuations, he creates them at least once a month.
Media characteristics and the information to be conveyed now differ for each outlet. Even if there is one piece of information to convey, materials related to this are needed for as many media outlets as there are. This document preparation is also where SR Division members, who regularly interact with media professionals, can demonstrate their skills!
|18:30 Email Check Next Day Preparation

Reviewing and wrapping up the day’s work and preparing for the next business day are the basics of being a working professional! He organizes tasks for the next day and beyond on the same day.
|19:00 Leaving Work

After leaving work, he often commutes home while watching the latest anime and movies on Netflix. Here too, checking the popularity rankings and keeping up with trending works is a must. He likes anime and variety shows, and recently watched the theatrical version of “Haikyu!!”
Now that he has gotten used to the work and grasped the busy and slow periods, he sometimes coordinates schedules to meet with university friends and exchange updates. On this day, he went to dinner with senior and fellow members from SUNNY SIDE UP!
|Extra Edition: Days Off

The secret to always approaching PR work with a fresh mindset is to clearly separate work and personal time!
He refreshes himself by fully enjoying what he wants to do, such as traveling, playing on his local grassroots baseball team, and attending music festivals. He believes that spending fulfilling time according to his mood and the season is the source of creating “exciting buzz.”
How was it?
At SUNNY SIDE UP, diverse work styles can be realized while developing strengths in respective areas as professionals.
We will continue to share the daily lives and real work situations of members from various departments and positions active in the field, so please check back.
