Introducing the “Best Smile of the Year 2025” awards ceremony, honoring the celebrities whose smiles shone brightest in 2025!
Hello. I am Ito from the SR Division of the Public Relations Business Headquarters.
In this modern era called the 100-year life span, did you know that dental health is closely related to healthy life expectancy, and that the more teeth you retain, the longer your healthy life expectancy tends to be?
The “Best Smile of the Year 2025 Awards Ceremony,” hosted by the Japan Dental Association and sponsored by Lotte Co., Ltd., was held in Tokyo on November 6, ahead of “Good Teeth Day” (November 8).
SUNNY SIDE UP was responsible for media outreach and on-site press coordination for this event. This article introduces the highlights from the day!
Judo siblings Abe win awards! Event report

“Best Smile of the Year” is part of the “Good Teeth Keep You Healthy Every Day” project, based on the belief that maintaining good teeth and oral health is the first step toward overall health. The award honors the celebrities whose smiles shone brightest this year, aiming to raise public awareness about dental and oral health.
The 2025 recipients were judoka siblings Hifumi Abe and Uta Abe, who appeared on stage as award winners.
At the awards ceremony, commemorative plaques were presented, and when asked about “the moment you had your best smile this year,” Hifumi Abe shared an anecdote: “I think I was really smiling when so many people celebrated my birthday. When you’re celebrated, you can’t help but smile.”
Uta Abe reflected, “I think I had my biggest smile of the year when I won the World Championships!” Their personal comments created a warm and friendly atmosphere throughout the venue.
In the talk session with Japan Dental Association Executive Director Tsujisaka following the awards ceremony, the keyword “investment in teeth” was introduced, referring to protecting the important “dental asset value” through daily self-care and regular professional care. Both revealed that they practice this “investment in teeth” habit by regularly getting cleanings at dental clinics and never missing flossing and brushing.
Trying the “Aiube Exercise” for oral health!
They also tried the “Aiube Exercise,” an oral exercise that strengthens the muscles around the mouth. Hifumi Abe commented, “My face feels refreshed (laughs). It might be good to do this exercise when I wake up in the morning!” Uta Abe said, “I was a bit embarrassed doing it in front of everyone, but I want to continue it every day.”

Hifumi Abe: “Be thorough in both daily life and brushing” / Uta Abe: “Polish teeth, mind, and technique every day without fail”
Finally, both Hifumi Abe and Uta Abe revealed on flip boards what efforts they want to make from now on to show their “best smiles” on future big stages. Hifumi Abe stated, “Be thorough in both daily life and brushing,” and Uta Abe said, “Polish teeth, mind, and technique every day without fail,” concluding the event in an atmosphere filled with anticipation.

Raising awareness about protecting “dental asset value” through the event
Through this event, featuring judoka siblings Hifumi Abe and Uta Abe and the content of the talk sessions, we were able to communicate the message of how important dental health is to overall health and performance.
Maintaining healthy teeth leads not only to a beautiful smile but also to physical health. Let’s all be mindful of daily brushing and care to live each day energetically!
