The typhoon that had been slowly moving north has finally passed through Japan, and the blazing sunshine is back again. This summer is even hotter than usual. With the scorching sun and the clinging humidity, many of you may find that even your appetite takes a hit.

Today, we would like to introduce some gourmet items recommended for the summer from Shake Shack, the New York-born gourmet burger restaurant that our company supports.

Supervised by “SPICY CURRY ROKA”!“Curry Shack,” with spices that will whet your appetite,and “Curry Fries”

In fact, Shake Shack is currently offering Japan-original summer-limited items supervised by Eri Saito, owner of the must-visit curry hotspot “SPICY CURRY ROKA”:the“Curry Shack” and “Curry Fries.”

“Summer is for curry!” This saying, often heard for ages, actually has solid reasoning behind it. For example, the spices in curry can stimulate the appetite, support the stomach, and aid digestion—helping protect you from summer fatigue and heatstroke. And the sweating brought on by the heat can also make your body feel cooler. Even though summer is nearing its end, this year’s relentless, sweat-drenching heat continues day after day. Yes—there is simply no getting through this heat without trying this burger! (No question.)

Soon after ordering, the food arrived. Fast service, and a burger as beautiful as a work of art—this is Shake Shack quality.

A signature Shake Shack burger: a slightly sweet bun reminiscent of brioche, a smashed patty made with 100% hormone-free Angus beef, and fresh lettuce—topped with a secret curry sauce supervised by ROKA owner Ms. Saito, mozzarella cheese, and carrot pickles. A hearty, satisfying item.

Even on the tray, the burger is already giving off an irresistible curry aroma.

Today, I went to try it with Miyu Ogawa, now in her second year. Time to dig in!

“So good!”

With that strong curry aroma, you might expect the curry to hit first—but when you take a bite, the first thing you notice is the meaty, juicy flavor of the patty! Then comes the savory fragrance of the curry sauce. This curry sauce was created specifically for this burger by Ms. Saito, owner of “SPICY CURRY ROKA,” who masterfully works with spices. While fully serving its role as an original sauce that brings out the meat’s flavor to the fullest, it also makes its presence known afterward with a rich, aromatic spice fragrance.

The heat is surprisingly mild, so it seems suitable even for children and those who are not fond of spicy food. Combined with the sweet-and-tangy carrot pickles and rich mozzarella cheese, it has a gentle mouthfeel—an orthodox, crowd-pleasing item that many people are likely to enjoy.

Next up: “Curry Fries.” Topped with fried onions and green onions over the same sauce used for the “Curry Shack.” One of Shake Shack’s popular menu items, the crinkle-cut fries are crispy on the outside and fluffy inside. The curry sauce is generously poured over the surface, and the subtle kick is addictive. In addition, the plentiful fried onions are juicy, and you can also taste the soft sweetness of the onions.

Now,let me share a special insider tip!

As the person currently in charge of Shake Shack PR, I am also a devoted Shake Shack fan—I actually worked part-time at Shake Shack Hanshin Umeda, the first store in Kansai, when I was a student. To wrap up, I would like to share a special insider tip that was also popular among staff back in my part-time days.

The appeal of Shake Shack fries is that, compared with flat fries, their larger surface area makes it easier to enjoy a crispy texture. However, because “Curry Fries” include moisture from the sauce, that crispiness can tend to fade over time.

So, for those who prefer their fries extra crispy, my recommendation is to ask when ordering to have the sauce served on the side. That way, the sauce is not poured directly over the fries; it is served in a cup, and you can dip the fries into it.

This keeps the texture crispy, and you can enjoy a variety of toppings—including ketchup and mustard available at the counter—so you can keep it delicious and interesting all the way to the last bite.
