Music is indispensable in our daily lives, but how do you enjoy it? For convenience, many people likely listen on devices such as smartphones and tablets.

However, development of “Stepping Out of the Slate” began from the idea that the physical experience you can feel through the sound and design of instruments and music devices cannot be fully satisfied by IT devices…!?

By combining tangible mechanisms attached to each device—such as candles and wind-up springs—with a smartphone app, it enables a way to enjoy music that leverages the strengths of both. It is still only a prototype, yet many people already want one…!

At a time when many of us want to enrich how we spend time at home during the COVID-19 pandemic, this is a wonderful item we would love to incorporate. We look forward to it being commercialized!

Lastly, please allow me to introduce a new facility that opened last month in my hometown, Asahikawa City, Hokkaido!Asahikawa is a city where, each time I return home year after year, I feel as though the central shopping arcade is shrinking.In Asahikawa’s Kaibō Kōen, a commercial facility with a truly unique concept has been created.

Its name is “Asahikawa Harete.”

It is operated by a company represented by Mr. Taizo Sugimura, a former member of the House of Representatives and TV personality from Asahikawa, and it incorporates measures to reduce the burden on tenants.By creating an environment where young people can more easily take on the challenge of opening a shop—such as providing spaces free of charge, requiring no down payment, deposit, or key money, and imposing no obligation to restore the premises to its original condition upon leaving—it appears the aim is to energize the city itself.

It would be wonderful if initiatives like this spread nationwide and more regions emerged where young people can take on challenges with energy and a strong pioneering spirit!
