[Now in the second half] Blue Period Exhibition: Is Art Talent? @ Terada Warehouse, Tennozu Isle | I went and checked it out

Hello everyone! This is Iguchi from the Social Good Promotion Office.

I visited the “Blue Period Exhibition: Is Art Talent?” that I also introduced in the previous article!

I will introduce everything at once, along with the many photos I took—so many that my camera roll nearly ran out of storage 🎨 The exhibition runs until Tuesday, September 27, and it is highly recommended for summer vacation outings as well!

I finally made it—so happy~~~~!

Now, let’s begin the report on my visit!

This exhibition lets you relive the story of the protagonist, Yatora Yaguchi, and his friends as they aim for the Tokyo University of the Arts entrance exam, through displays of paintings featured in the work, an immersive theater, and more. I was overwhelmed by the exhibition space, which vividly portrays the struggles and flashes of inspiration of an art prep student who conveys feelings through paintings rather than words…!

A large-scale exhibition that makes lavish use of a huge venue! I cannot contain my excitement.

〈Blue Shibuya Theater〉

Early morning in Shibuya. For Yatora, it was a quiet, blue world. This immersive theater lets you relive the moment when Yatora encounters art and is gradually drawn in.

An unbelievably huge theater welcomes you 🎞

〈Character Large Plaster Cast Room〉

Plaster casts that everyone has seen at least once in an art room. Appearing in a space reminiscent of the large plaster cast room at the Tokyo University of the Arts are characters disguised as famous statues such as David, Brutus, and Molière.
Visitors can freely sketch these statues at the venue (weekdays only). *These are plaster-cast-style sculptures.

At the preview, I was able to see art students actually sketching them! Extremely rare!

〈How to View Masterpieces〉

Hashida, Yatora’s classmate at the art prep school, taught him—who had felt that art was difficult to understand—the joy of looking at artworks. In this corner, you can view the famous paintings that appear in the story together with Hashida and other characters, and discover your own way of enjoying masterpieces.

When appreciating paintings, what should you look at, and how? I did not realize there was a way to view them like this 💡

There is also an experience where you place stickers on tags showing the artwork title and price

I hope I can become wealthy someday and buy one…

〈First-round exam〉 Self-portrait

Ahead of the first-round exam at the Tokyo University of the Arts, Yatora becomes afraid of drawing. However, he realizes that what matters is his own agency. Turning the accident of a broken mirror to his advantage, he completes a painting that only he can draw. The exam venue is recreated, including works by other characters not featured in the original story.

Works that could not be seen in the manga or anime—such as that person’s self-portrait after breaking the mirror—have been brought out from the archives 👀

Even Ryuji Ayukawa’s legendary “X” mark…

A look inside original author Tsubasa Yamaguchi’s room

By exhibiting Tsubasa Yamaguchi as a student alongside Tsubasa Yamaguchi as a manga artist, this corner allows you to learn about the path she has taken, the background behind the creation of Blue Period, and the realities of her work environment. Interview videos and manga works from her graduation project are also on display.

That frog is there too 🐸

The teacher’s desk has been recreated…!

Even the original drawings…!

So many works you could be there until nightfall! Even the behind-the-scenes of the visual creation that became the poster

A lineup of precious works from before they were collaged! Spectacular!!

And there are also those works you saw in the manga

To think you can see this while you are still alive… Please experience that absorbing sensation for yourself

So, did Yatora pass the Tokyo University of the Arts…!? The result is…

It reminds me of the sea during summer vacation

Plenty of limited-edition goods as well!

There was a character palette that makes it easy to look back, whether you have not read the manga or you are partway through!

How was it…! This was supposed to be a cool summer outing spot, but the energy was so intense that I, Iguchi, ended up sweating as I brought you this report.

It feels like more new announcements may be coming as the second half continues… We cannot take our eyes off the Blue Period exhibition going forward ✊
