New Graduates Manage the SUNNY SIDE UP Kick-off Meeting 🍳 A Behind-the-Scenes Look at Their First Internal Event Management!

Hello everyone! I am Kanie from the 1st Division of the Public Relations Business Unit, and I am a new graduate!

On July 1st, SUNNY SIDE UP GROUP entered its 38th term. In the morning, a group-wide kick-off meeting was held at a movie theater in Tokyo.*Masks were removed only for the duration of the photo shoots.

In the afternoon, SUNNY SIDE UP held its individual kick-off meeting at the head office. This event was primarily managed by 14 fresh new graduates who joined the company just three months ago!

It has become an annual tradition for SUNNY SIDE UP’s new graduates to present events. To help members remember their faces, they have produced various “fun commotions,” such as managing the New Year’s party and participating in Tokyo Rainbow Pride.

This year, while remaining mindful of social distancing, the new graduates took on the challenge of managing the first-ever kick-off meeting in the company’s history! By cooperating with their peers, they achieved a great success.

In this article, we will take a closer look behind the scenes of the kick-off meeting management, which served as the first collaborative project for the new graduates!

Part 1: Each division announces its policy for the current term! There were even some moments of laughter… (lol)

The MCs for the day were Sakama-senpai, in her 10th year, and a new graduate!

Comment from a participating member: As this was an important task to mark the beginning of the company’s term, I handled it with a strong sense of responsibility. As the start of the meeting approached, I was so nervous my stomach felt like it was turning over, but once it began, everything went smoothly without any incidents, and we finished enjoyably! Although there were many challenges, I am glad I had this experience!

During the meeting, representatives from each division presented a review of the previous term along with goals and policies for the current term.

While it was a serious occasion for all members to share the goals for the term, the warm atmosphere is one of the best parts of SUNNY SIDE UP…! For some reason, one division head even took the stage dressed as a sushi chef?!

Presenting division members by comparing them to sushi toppings?! …That shows a lot of love! (lol)

In the section introducing mid-career hires who joined during the previous term, videos were shown to showcase their personalities! The video production was handled by new graduates with creative talents.

Comment from a participating member: I took on the challenge of creating a video that would convey the charm of our mid-career members. I have nothing but gratitude for the mid-career hires who graciously responded to my unreasonable request to “take a video that expresses your true self!” within a short period of time.

As this was the first in-person kick-off meeting since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, we attempted the first-ever hybrid format of in-person and live streaming. We also received comments from the members who were central to these preparations.

The streaming team also supervised the overall management by the new graduates! Our reliable leader, Koichi-chan.

Comment from a participating member: Since the streaming is a part where a single mistake could stop the entire event, we conducted rehearsals many times until we were satisfied! By building an event from scratch and seeing the happy faces of the members, I felt a sense of accomplishment and gained the “perseverance” that will surely translate into my regular duties.

Part 2: Awards Ceremony – A toast with everyone who always works so hard!

In the second part, awards were presented for activities during the previous term. In addition to business results, there were many fun awards typical of SUNNY SIDE UP that praised personal character, including the “Aim for the A-Body Award” from the 32 Benefits, which focuses on how one spends their private time!

Afterward, we enjoyed light refreshments and praised each other’s hard work over the past year.

We were also very particular about the menu!
“Shimizu-ya,” the ultimate ramen meticulously prepared by Mr. Shimizu, the new head of the 3rd Division.

I prepared everything with the sole desire to make all the SSU members happy!By providing dishes that can only be eaten on this occasion and menus related to the members, I tried to ensure everyone had a special day typical of SUNNY SIDE UP.Thank you to everyone who cooperated!

The Start of a New Term Deepening “Sunny Love”

The SUNNY SIDE UP Kick-off Meeting was managed primarily by new graduates for the first time.Thanks to the cooperation of our seniors, we were able to achieve a great success!

Everyone praised each other’s hard work over the past year, and I believe we were all able to set goals for the new year with a fresh mindset.
