Creating a Positive Impact on Global Society! A Wealth of the Latest “Social Good” Topics | Poached Egg Special Edition
Hello! I am Iguchi from the Social Good Promotion Office!
🌎 What is “Social Good”?
It is a collective term for activities, products, and services that have a positive impact on “society,” such as the global environment and local communities.
The Social Good Promotion Office, newly established within the SUNNY SIDE UP GROUP in July, is advancing various activities through PR based on the concept of “Something Good—One thing you can do.”
Our monthly “Poached Egg” meeting, where members gather to become “well-informed pretenders,” was held this time as a special edition: the “Social Good Poached Egg”!
We would like to share a few excerpts of interesting news brought in by our members! By reading this, you too should be able to join us as a “well-informed pretender.”
> To those of you who have just learned the term “Social Good” for the first time: please try spreading the word by telling someone, “I heard Social Good means this.” That in itself is a wonderful Social Good action.
■ Replicating the feel of those animals!? These endangered species skin notebooks are adorable…!

This high-concept notebook was introduced by one of our stylish new graduates!
This notebook was designed using the idea of “fashion accessories themed around endangered species.” The crowdfunding campaign held for its creation attracted 900 supporters, reaching the goal with an impressive 637% of the target amount!
The “Whale Shark” version uses texture printing mixed with micro-beads to replicate the rough feel of sharkskin. The “Reticulated Giraffe” version reportedly uses non-woven fabric printing to recreate the coat of a short-haired animal. The “Fiji Banded Iguana” version expresses vivid green colors through special printing and the reptile-like skin texture through high-build UV printing.
Every time you use a flerco note, you are reminded of animals on the brink of extinction. Furthermore, a portion of the proceeds is donated to animal protection organizations… it is a volume filled with a message!
■ Why didn’t I think of that!? Bulk-buy shampoo and hand soap are incredibly convenient

A fresh new graduate shared this plastic-reduction initiative by Natural Lawson. It is called “Natural Lawson’s Weighted Sales”!! In fact, they reportedly began testing bulk detergent sales at select stores in Tokyo in August 2020. In response to user requests for similar initiatives for frequently used items like hand soap and shampoo, they expanded the trial to a total of five stores starting in February 2021. It is true that shampoo and conditioner rarely run out at the same time (in my case, the shampoo always goes first). By purchasing only what you need, you can use products more carefully and without waste.
■ Easy to make at home! Introducing a recipe for reusable “Beeswax Wrap”!

Beeswax is wax harvested from beehives, and beeswax wrap is made by coating “fabric” with “beeswax”! When you place it over a dish and wrap it with your palms… magic happens! The warmth of your hands softens the beeswax, allowing it to stick just like plastic wrap. It has recently become a popular long-use item that can be washed and reused. This was shared by a new graduate with a high interest in sustainability! In July, we will even hold a beeswax wrap workshop in the company kitchen! (Please look forward to the report blog post!)

Isn’t “BANCART,” the first regional revitalization lifestyle market located inside a bank that opened this May, just too stylish!? This was introduced by a member from Hiroshima who radiates the brightest positive aura in the office! They shared a Social Good action from their hometown. Recently, there has been an increase in stylish young people using artist-branded band merchandise or IKEA’s blue shoppers for everyday use, but I never expected bank merchandise to emerge… Furthermore, BANCART has collaborated with the famous bakery “ANDERSEN” to release environmentally friendly eco-bags! They are also launching “good” products that are kind to the Earth, such as reusing pruned branches from apple and grape trees—which previously could only be used as fertilizer—as dye for the eco-bags!

“Chikyu-kun,” the global mascot born from SmartNews, reports on world events with full physical effort!
In an era where the accuracy of health-related news is questioned due to COVID-19, and we face difficult challenges regarding gender equality, Chikyu-kun delivers daily information on anniversaries and events that we, as global citizens, must not forget, working toward a gentle world where no one is left behind.
What did you think? This session was again filled with various trending topics, centered on warm news that is kind to the Earth and society! Your “well-informed pretender” level must have increased…
We also had a wealth of other discussions, such as the theory that some ways of using eco-bags aren’t actually eco-friendly, and the back-story behind the birth of the green Doraemon! Please look forward to the next one!
In addition to the monthly Poached Egg blog, we will continue to regularly introduce topics that catch our members’ attention through the “Fun News from Around the World” section of the blog and our official Twitter account.
