A New Area Emerges After a Massive Expansion! Members Who Know teamLab Planets Inside Out Introduce Their Top Recommendations
Hello! I am Tomita from the Social Relations Department of the Public Relations Business Division.
This may be sudden, but have you been physically active lately?
Due to the cold, my opportunities to move my body have decreased significantly.Running outside is a chore, but I want to have fun while staying active! I have great news for anyone feeling the same way.
A long-awaited new area opened on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at teamLab Planets TOKYO DMM.com (hereinafter referred to as teamLab Planets), which constantly attracts attention from around the world!
This new area is said to feature many works where you can enjoy moving your body with all your might regardless of the season or weather, so I, who am sensitive to the cold, went to experience it right away.
What is teamLab Planets?

teamLab Planets is a “museum where you walk through water” created by the art collective teamLab, which opened in 2018.
The characteristic of the works is that you can immerse yourself in art by using your five senses to the fullest, such as entering water barefoot or enjoying different scents for each piece.
Furthermore, teamLab Planets recorded a total of 2,504,264 visitors between April 1, 2023, and March 31, 2024, and was recognized by Guinness World Records™ as the “Most visited museum (single art group)” in the world.

Three areas have opened! Heading into the new area!
With the opening of this new area, the facility’s floor space has been expanded by approximately 1.5 times. The vastly expanded spaces are all educational projects. For example, there is the “Catching and Collecting Forest,” where you catch and observe various extinct animals; the “Athletics Forest,” a complex and three-dimensional creative physical space; and “Learn! Future Park,” a project for co-creation (collaborative creativity). In addition, a group of more than 20 works has been opened to the public.

Walking through the darkness toward the new area, you can feel your nerves concentrating on your five senses, such as sight, smell, and hearing. When you proceed in that state and arrive at the new area, the work “Autonomous Abstraction” first fills your field of vision. When you touch the wall, the artwork reacts to people, and dots begin to spread. Each dot resonates with a tone every time it flickers, and the sounds echo throughout the space.
Including this piece, a total of more than 20 works are being unveiled in this new area.
Among them, we will introduce three works that are particularly noteworthy.
Jumping on high-speed rotating spheres: Rapidly Rotating Bouncing Spheres in the Caterpillar House!

The first one we would like to introduce is “Rapidly Rotating Bouncing Spheres in the Caterpillar House,” where the entire space is filled with spheres.
As of 2025, this is a work that can only be enjoyed here at teamLab Planets within Japan. Therefore, it is one of the works you should definitely enjoy when you come to teamLab Planets.
In this work, you move forward by stepping over high-speed rotating spheres while maintaining your balance.
I experienced it myself, and it was more difficult than I imagined… It tests your balance, but the sounds that resonate through the space every time you step on a sphere feel wonderful, and you find yourself absorbed in the goal of crossing all the spheres.

If you manage to cross to the end by continuously jumping on spheres of the same color, all the spheres in the space burst, and many caterpillars appear!
The caterpillars crawl along the ground and walls, heading high toward the ceiling, eventually growing from pupae into butterflies and taking flight.
By the way, if you touch these butterflies, they scatter away. If you find a swarm of butterflies when you visit the new area, please try touching them.
Walking through the air: Multi-Colored Aerial Climbing!

The next work we would like to introduce is “Multi-Colored Aerial Climbing.”
This is a complex, three-dimensional work that you enjoy while using your entire body’s muscles and sense of balance. A key highlight is the ability to move your whole body, which is characteristic of this new area.
In this work, you cross bars suspended three-dimensionally in the air while maintaining your balance. Even if you try to cross bars of the same color, the differences in height make it quite challenging to move forward.
Furthermore, the bars suspended from the ceiling sway significantly! Therefore, you must proceed carefully to avoid falling, which naturally makes you focus on your footing.
Please also be sure to enjoy the shifting patterns of the flock of birds, whose colors change in coordination with the movement of people crossing the bars!
Finally, to the area where extinct animals gather!

The final work we will introduce is “Catching and Collecting Forest of Extinction.”
The most recommended aspect of this work is that you can observe and learn about animals while sensing their presence as they move around you in a massive installation space.

Various animals live in this forest. Birds appear overhead, giant mammoths and giraffes appear before your eyes, and crocodiles and lizards appear at your feet. Moreover, all the animals that appear are extinct species.
By using a dedicated app to catch the animals, information about them is stored in your personal collection guidebook.
Both catching the animals and watching your collection grow is incredibly fun, and time flies before you know it.
By the way, it is said that some of the animals appearing in the space are rarely seen…

Furthermore, the animals will react when touched.
Since you can take photos with these giant animals at close range, you will feel as if you have traveled back in time.
We encourage you to find your favorite animals and take some friendly photos with them!

Exquisite Vegan Ramen: A Member’s Top Recommendation!

While teamLab Planets is famous for its artworks, did you know that it also offers an excellent gourmet experience?
We particularly recommend the “Miso Ramen Vegan UZU style Tokyo Edition”! This is a new sensation of vegan ramen full of umami, made by adding the mellow sweetness of oat milk to a broth of Rausu kelp and shiitake mushrooms, finished with a special miso tare and fragrant vegetables.
When you visit teamLab Planets, this is a dish we highly recommend you savor alongside the artistic experience!
We hope you enjoyed this introduction.
What did you think? teamLab Planets is a place where you can immerse your entire body in art and enjoy yourself all day long. Whether you are looking to get some exercise or are visiting an art museum for the first time, it is an experiential space that everyone can enjoy.
