Hello everyone! I’m Yuri Suzuki, a first-year new graduate who joined SUNNY SIDE UP GROUP this spring, working in Social Relations Division 3.

During our new graduate training, I expressed my desire to “write an article!” and was lucky enough to be assigned to write for SUNNY DAYS. In this article, I’ll share the fun aspects of our new graduate training that truly embody SUNNY SIDE UP GROUP’s slogan “Let’s Have Fun!”

Please enjoy this fresh article from a first-year new graduate!

After the enjoyable entrance ceremony, our two-week new graduate training officially began.

Week 1 Theme: “Understanding the Company, Organization, and People”

The first week of training was dedicated to acquiring fundamental knowledge as members of SUNNY SIDE UP GROUP and as working professionals.

We learned about the company’s founding story and SUNNY SIDE UP GROUP, and in a discussion session with second-year seniors closest to our age, they answered our questions about the work that awaits us in a Q format!

While we expected serious learning, each senior’s presentation style was like a comedy routine, with trivia quizzes thrown in that kept us engaged. It conveyed how SUNNY SIDE UP GROUP’s DNA of “having fun” originates from here!

■To the Person You Most Want to Thank Right Now

The most memorable part of the first week was the presentation of gratitude letters.

We had received explanations about the company and organization from various members, from directors to second-year employees, but the energetic atmosphere suddenly changed.

Each of us read letters aloud to those we wanted to thank—parents and siblings who raised us, teachers who helped us, Osamu Dazai (?), and others—with some members moved to tears.

Beyond simple self-introductions, we learned about each person’s background and experiences, getting to know the peers with whom we’ll grow together.

Week 2 Theme: “Building the Foundation to Become PR Professionals”

Applying what we learned in the first week, it was time for hands-on practice!

It was a week filled with enjoyable learning, including studying the Social Relations Division where we’ll be assigned after training, visiting work sites, and actually creating projects together with our peers.

■Site Visit! Exploring the Preview of Tokyu Plaza Harajuku “Harakado,” Which Opened on April 17, 2024!

Some of you may have seen the news on TV about a new commercial facility opening in Harajuku.

At the preview of Tokyu Plaza Harajuku “Harakado,” observing our seniors’ work, we experienced the excitement of discovering healing spots like a public bath that suddenly appeared in the city and a magazine library with stylish publications—experiencing and conveying this excitement before anyone else deepened our understanding of the PR professional’s role, which we had previously only experienced as viewers.

■Attack 25 at President Tsugihara’s Home!?

An annual tradition is the mission given to first-year new graduates: visiting President Tsugihara’s home kitchen to prepare food and organize recreational activities!

This year’s theme was “Welcome to 1984 Showa Retro! The 40th Anniversary Is Too Celebratory!”

All first-year members celebrated SUNNY SIDE UP GROUP’s 40th anniversary by performing parodies of “Attack 25” and “Quiz! Do Re Mi Fa Don!,” recreating café dishes, and expressing the atmosphere of 40 years ago.

The project, created through the first collaboration of all 25 new graduates after joining the company, was filled with a sense of achievement and fulfillment, making us excited about our future work.

Comments from the Training Coordinator

This year’s training theme was “Group Synergy,” reflecting the integration that occurred this term.

The first week’s theme was “understanding,” based on the principle that you cannot communicate anything to clients without knowing the history, organization, and people of your company, including explanations of SUNNY SIDE UP and each group company.
The second week’s theme was “building the foundation to become PR professionals,” focusing on learning practical skills so that new graduates can contribute as immediate assets after field assignment and become excellent PR professionals.

While the two weeks were packed with events, as the training coordinator, I repeatedly emphasized the importance of “greeting people and expressing gratitude.”

…You might think, “That’s obvious!” but no one is displeased by hearing “Good morning!” or “Thank you!” And most importantly, you yourself feel good when greeting and expressing gratitude with a smile.

It’s something obvious, but easy to forget when you let your guard down… Please continue to be professionals who can greet and express gratitude with the brightest smiles and loudest voices, true to SUNNY SIDE UP’s spirit, both in the office and in the field, second to none.

In Closing

How was it?

From classroom learning and letters to exploring the latest spots and Attack 25 at the president’s home, it was a uniquely SUNNY SIDE UP GROUP experience—unconventional, extremely fun, and filled with learning over two weeks!

At the end of training, although we’ll be separated into different assignments, we exchanged message boards expressing how we’ll support each other as peers and sometimes rivals.

With these messages in our hearts, we’ll grow into outstanding PR professionals and create fun excitement, so please look forward to it!!
