Hello, everyone!I am Nakano from the PR team at SUNNY SIDE UP GROUP!

With COVID-19 reclassified as a Category 5 infectious disease, we have been seeing more sports events taking place, haven’t we?

Since our founding in 1985, SUNNY SIDE UP has grown alongside the content of “sports” in the truest sense, as a PR company engaged in athlete management—so this is truly wonderful news for us as well.

Last year, SUNNY SIDE UP was certified as a “Tokyo Sports Promotion Company (FY2022)” under the Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s “Tokyo Sports Promotion Company Certification Program”!

Because we understand the value of sports better than anyone, we believe we must not neglect our own health due to being busy. With that in mind, we have promoted initiatives to create an environment that supports our members’ health and daily lives—such as the “Club Activity Support” program, which encourages voluntary opportunities to play sports.

As part of these efforts, on May 18, SUNNY SIDE UP members took part in the “Bloomberg Square Mile Relay Tokyo,” a relay-style running event in which each company participates with one team of 10 and passes the baton as one united team!

Since a team was formed to compete with members of the “Running Club” and new graduate hires, we went to cheer them on with all our might—so we will report on how it went!

The SUNNY SIDE UP Running Club finally enters! “Bloomberg Square Mile Relay Tokyo” Participation Report

What Is the “Bloomberg Square Mile Relay”?

The “Bloomberg Square Mile Relay” is a popular corporate running event held worldwide. Teams consist of 10 runners, each running 1 mile (1.6 km),competing for the best total time over 10 miles (16 km).

Held in 13 cities worldwide, it was first held in Tokyo in 2017. SUNNY SIDE UP has been responsible for production, operations, and PR since the inaugural event, and this year marks our fourth time participating.

Arriving at the venue in time for the participating team members to gather, we were greeted by the valiant sight of members already warming up and refueling.

The cheering squad was fired up too, determined to help in any way we could!

As the start draws near, the excitement begins to build in Marunouchi as well.

And at last, the race begins!! The first runner bursts off the line with a powerful dash.

So fast!!

A large crowd around the course cheered on the runners as well.

Since the baton is passed at the same spot as the start line, the cheering squad moved around to make sure not to miss the handoff moment, calling out encouragement.

Go for it!!

Then, the awards ceremony.

The overall winner was “Mitsubishi UFJ Trust and Banking” (time: 58:17).
The winner in the mixed-gender team category was “Barclays” (time: 1:06:35)!

The “Running Club” placed an incredible second in the mixed-gender team category! Their time was 1:08:09! Congratulations! A well-deserved result!

And congratulations to everyone on the winning team!

Bloomberg Square Mile Relay Tokyo featured some truly thrilling races—we are already looking forward to next year’s event.
