Featured on WBS and news zero and now creating a buzz! We visited the “night cherry blossom hanami event,” “NAKED Sakura at Shinjuku Gyoen 2023,” which started on Friday, March 31 at Shinjuku Gyoen—an oasis in the heart of the city 🌸

An overwhelming cherry blossom experience… with Shinjuku Gyoen—normally closed at night—opened specially for this event! The production changes with the blooming conditions, so it is enjoyable no matter how many times you visit. Below, we introduce the sustainable and clean highlights. The event runs from Friday, March 31, 2023 to Sunday, April 23, 2023.
Approximately 70 varieties and about 900 trees! The first collaboration between Shinjuku Gyoen, a famous cherry blossom spot, and NAKED
With around 70 varieties and about 900 cherry trees, peak bloom varies by variety. To ensure you can enjoy cherry blossoms in full bloom whenever you visit during the event period, the featured production areas actually shift according to the varieties. At the preview, the Night Sakura Walk area offered a spectacular view with Somei Yoshino in full bloom beautifully illuminated; and from early to mid-April, visitors can reportedly enjoy powerful projection mapping on the rare cherry variety “Fukurokuju.”
Sustainable hanami with the utmost consideration for nature and the environment 🌸
Upon entering the venue, start with the MY Sakura Fortune to discover “your cherry blossom”! Mine was “Ichiyo.”
Stroll with the NAKED Distance Lantern® in an Ichiyo pattern (limited quantity) *1 in hand
*1: Participatory art that helps maintain social distance with rings of light while allowing you to become part of the light production yourself. Designs are selected from five varieties of cherry blossoms that bloom in Shinjuku Gyoen.
It is wonderfully spacious, making it easy to explore comfortably at your own pace.
Shinjuku Gyoen is a National Garden under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of the Environment, and a precious oasis remaining in the heart of the city.
We also drew NAKED’s signature flower fortune. I extended my streak of “small blessing.”
The popular picnic sheets are also cherry blossom-themed! Quantities are limited, so be sure to check the official information 🌸
There was also a new work, “SAKURA DANDELION,” from the art project “DANDELION PROJECT,” in which artist Ryotaro Muramatsu makes flowers of peace bloom!
Carrying prayers for peace, they fly out into the world. .。o○
Powered by clean electricity! A night cherry blossom event wrapped in light that is gentle on both the environment and the heart
For some of the night cherry blossom illuminations and projection mapping, power was supplied for a limited time using Toyota Motor Corporation’s hydrogen fuel cell vehicle “MIRAI” *2 and “Moving e” *3 🚙
*2: An eco-friendly vehicle that supports diversification of automotive fuels, offers excellent environmental performance by emitting no CO2 or environmentally harmful substances while driving, and also provides convenience comparable to current gasoline-engine vehicles—contributing to the realization of a sustainable mobility society
*3: A mobile power generation and supply system built by Toyota and Honda by combining fuel cell buses with large and small batteries
It is shining brilliantly with power spun from hydrogen—enough to surprise even Pikachu ⚡
Sustainable vegan hanami menu 🌎 with containers made from materials that can be returned to resources
The sustainable vegan menu—perfect for hanami—was developed by the popular restaurant “TREE by NAKED” 🍴The in-park café “NATIONAL PARKS CAFE Under the Tree” and food trucks also offer cherry blossom non-alcoholic cocktails—truly breathtaking. .。o○
A pink mocktail (non-alcoholic cocktail) inspired by cherry blossoms! Alcohol is prohibited anyway, so this is a welcome option.
To help address the waste issue associated with hanami, environmentally friendly containers made of bioplastic, wood, paper, and more are also used.
Meet a new kind of food: a plant-based American corn dog! There are also vegan nuggets that taste just like chicken (sold at the café only).
In addition, there is a full lineup of food and sweets as well as drinks, including a hearty vegan clam chowder soup made with mirin lees instead of bacon, and sakura mochi-style scones with a flavor reminiscent of sakura mochi 🌙
Night Sakura Walk Area to Art Hanami Area 🌸 It is very spacious, so please wear comfortable walking shoes.
Even if it rains, you can still immerse yourself in this beautiful world view ✨
The Night Sakura Walk area, where you can stroll through an artistic world produced with lighting and music, features illuminated Somei Yoshino. The Art Hanami area is a relaxing place to spend time with vegan food and drinks from TREE by NAKED’s food truck. .。o○
